Advantages: Nice Community feel, Good marine sciences departments, LIke the outdoors.. you'll like Bangor
Disadvantages: Not the most City Centre feel if your looking for it, Its a long way from most peoples home, (is that a disadvantage?), Can seem a bit small as an area to live in for allll of your study
MMM.. Bangor, Dont go here if you are looking for the attractions of bright neon lights of city bars and swish super mega multi-cine entertainment malls with pseudo marble effect flooring and day glow lettering shop advertising. Bangor isnt Milton Keynes or anything like such 'modern' cities. It is... a wonderful place to study, enjoy life, meet people and escape into the countryside (if thats your pleasing). Very small city where the student population is a very significant part of the population. You also get fit living in Bangor, since every walk to just about anywhere means walking down hill and consequently.. uphill to return! Menai Straits are a nice walk away on warm day. Though, be warned, there are not toooo many of those during the autumn and winter months in North Wales! The university is imposing and yet has a good sense of community. Strong reputation in Marine sciences, its own research vessel... if your studying in that area. Good mountain walking on the door step (depends on the size of your doorstep of course). Small night clubs, lots of pubs, good life. Very nice place to be. But thats just my opinion... and that of my friends.
