Advantages: Great Location, Very good, clean, quiet building, good computers
Disadvantages: not a "top university", staff sometimes unhelpful, disorganised (but what university isn't?)
I started the University of Westminster in 2000, and I've been there for 2 years now, and i'm just starting my final year of study.
Location:
The University is located in central London, which is great,, because there's all the shops etc all around you, and the buzz of London at full force! The one disadvantage is to your wallet or purse! its so easy to spend spend spend in the centre of London with the widest choice of shops in the UK. Westminster is a real multicultural place, and this is reflected in the university, as people from all over the world come here to learn.
The University Course:
When i started my course, i was to say the least, dissappointed. The reason was that most of the staff seemed so unwilling to help. That is still true to an extent, but most universities seem to offer a limited amount of guidance, and the rest is up to you! it takes time to adapt, but you have to learn to work out problems for yourself i think.
the course i study, law is very good, i'm really starting to find it interesting, now i have the freedom to choose what i learn on the course being in my final year! Law is by no means an easy subject, and i'm amazed by how many people are shocked at how mcuh reading and research is invovled. Its a law degree for gods sake! its not a walk in the park, that i can tell you!
The University Building, resources etc:
Tis is one area that the University is head and shoulders above the others in my opinion. The computers are generally well maintained and clean, and the software up to date. it would be nice if there were more computers, but that's true for most universities!
The building (law school in Little Titchfield street) is very good. its modern and clean and on the whole, very quiet. other so called top universities are falling down by comparision, it amused me to read someone's review of Kings College, because the place is in need of some repair! The regent cam
pus is also quite nice, and maylebone, which i don't often go to is in fairly good order.
Conclusion:
On the whole its a good university, don't believe that because its an ex polytechnic it won't be any good because i believe this place has a future as a leading institution in a number of areas. UCL and company are all very well and good, but you've still got to work hard, like you have to at Westminster, and if you do, i'm sure you will do just as well as if you went to a so called "top university".
