Belkin Surgemaster Under Monitor Power Centre ... bought this for my computer specifically so that it could allow me to plug 6 things in at once (speakers, monitor, computer, printer, router, file server) and to protect all of these things (more specifically the computer and file server) from any surges of power that could damage them if they were plugged into a normal socket. It worked fine for the first 6 months but just a couple of weeks ago it must have failed. There was some sort of surge of power and my whole PC goes off and does not turn on again - it has no power to it even if plugged into the main wall plug. As the DC connecter attaches to the computer body by magnetism alone, any excess strain on the cable will break the connection and pull it free from its socket. Bye Bye Standby Starter Kit ... purchased this Bye Bye Starter Kit from Maplin Electronics for £19.99. Although I knew it would take a long long time to recoup this expense, I wanted to feel that I was doing my part to not waste electricity... here is my story so far, three months in. The kit consists of three plug adapters and a remote control unit. The idea is that you plug the adapter into your mains socket, then the device into the adapter, for example your TV.
