... supplies for computers are surrounded by a myth. This is that many people think you need 1kw+ power supplies for almost every PC that is made for gaming. This is wrong, to use up more than 1kw you would need ot be spending £2k+ on a PC. I chose the Antec NeoHE 500w as it was cheap, modular and 500w is perfect for a decent gaming PC. Cooler Master eXtreme Power RS-430-PCAP ... bought the CoolerMaster eXtreme after my last power supply had such a wide fluctuating voltage that it caused my computer to randomly power down, and so far, after a year of use I have not had the same issues with this product! There are several things I love about this product, firstly at roughly £30 it is in the middle of the market; however I believe it is superb value for money. Firstly the product is amazingly quiet, I ve never noticed the sound of the fan in this power supply, even though it s huge! Secondly because of the large fan it is located on the bottom of the power supply rather than at the back, and this gives a superb cooling effect throughout my case. F... Antec Smartpower 2.0 SP-350PEC ... psu is an unfortunate one. Its top performing with a 25A combined 12V rail, enough SATA and molex connectors. Its also quiet - effectively silent in even quiet pcs. Voltage stability is passable though the 12V rail runs a bit high at 12.5V in lighter systems. Its reasonably efficient. The cables aren t sleaved but it is a budget designated PSU. However this doesn t save it from its defective design. This big issue here is the cheap fuhhjyya capacitors employed, combined with a low noise design, which therefore means less airflow, and therefore it runs hot even on a light computer. So while it runs fine for 6 months, once the cheap capacitors can t handle the 50deg c...
