Advantages: - Protects electricals - Cheap - Easy to use - Impressive warranty

Disadvantages: - May be too bulky for some people

Over the years, I have experienced more than a few power cuts/spikes in my area. What I didn't know was that such spikes and outages could have a serious and long-lasting effect on my electrical goods, and so I finally decided to invest in a surge protector when I found out. This surge protector by Belkin offers protection from such power spikes, which can at times even occur from simply turning on a power switch.

The device itself fits four different plugs and has its own power switch on the front, illuminated in orange when on. The cable is around a metre long, which was long enough for my needs, and the build quality and thickness of cabling is very impressive indeed. It is 40cm (15 inches) in length and over an inch in depth, so it's a rather bulky piece of kit. I have mine hooked up in an open space where there isn't much else, so it's an ok size for me, but it is a tad large so this is worth factoring in before buying. Finally, it features a 'spoiler cable system' (the grey bar shown in the above image). Basically, this piece of plastic can be lifted to allow cabling inside and then closed to reduce clutter. I haven't made use of it myself, but this may be a good feature for others.

As of yet, I have had no problems with the product. It's hooked up to my PC, a telephone and some other electricals, and I now have a degree of peace of mind when it comes to protecting my electrical goods. We've had power surges since I purchased it and it has dealt with them well, with the PC working as before.

Moreover, one thing which distinguishes this surge protector over others is the amazing warranty offered once purchased. Not only is the product itself given a lifetime warranty (testament to its build quality) but it also impressively includes a £25,000 connected equipment warranty. This means that in the event that your connected goods are indeed damaged, they'll be covered by Belkin, another reason to have peace of mind.

If you're looking for a cheap surge protector from a trusted name, this is an ideal choice for you. It may not be the most streamlined of devices, but it more than makes up for this in its build quality and impressive warranty.

It can be snapped up for under ten pounds online.

Summary: An ideal solution for those looking to protect their domestic electrical goods.
