Advantages: double use, long wire

Disadvantages: not kitten proof!

Probably the most important item of equipment that comes with your mobile phone is the charger. When I upgraded my phone to a Blackberry Torch I was suprised to open the bag with the charger in to find that it was in pieces and needed putting together. The reason for this is that the charger is different to others as it is a travel charger.

As I say the charger comes in a few pieces and you have the main charger unit which is just like a normal charger without the actual plug on. On the back of the plastic unit there is quite a bit of information printed, none of which I understand but I presume they are the safety information mainly in the form of small symbols. There is also the Blackberry logo printed which shows it is the official product. The wire is attached to this part and it is really quite long in comparison to other chargers I have had in the past. At the end of the wire is the small connector to plug into your phone so you can place it on charge. Along with the main unit you will find two attachments, one being a standard three pin plug for use in the United Kingdom and a two pin plug for international use. The plug easily slots onto the main unit and clips into place and is very sturdy. To remove the plug there is a small button (which says push) which releases the clips so it slides off with ease.

I never travel so I have no need at all for the alternative plug but my dad also has a Blackberry and he regularly goes abroad so the fact he has this option is quite good and he does get use out of both plugs.

The charger is extremely light, again in comparison to others I have had but doesn't seem to be flimsy. The wire is a double wire so it appears to be quite a tough one, however one day I plugged it into my phone and realised after about an hour that it hadn't charged it up one bit. The reason? My kitten had chewed right through the wire!! Thankfully you can buy replacement chargers online so I was able to get a new one quite quickly. I purchased a new charger on Ebay for just £1.99 and it came the next day which was fantastic. The only downside to buying a replacement charger I found was that the wire was significantly shorter and that was a bit of a problem when I was charging the phone up at work (which I shouldn't be doing really anyway!!) in that it didn't reach my desk.

I don't think I can really recommend a phone charger as such as everybody who has a mobile phone needs one but all I can say is that for the price you can buy a replacement it is a good option to have. The charger is sturdy and the added plus of it being able to be used abroad is great. One thing to note is that the price of the replacement I personally bought was a standard plug only, if you wish to buy a travel charger they are priced at around the £4 mark.

Thank you for reading my review.
