WinZip
by 1st2thebar Hello Dooyoo folk, Winzip is an application that zips up multiple files and makes emailing and filing so much simpler. 'Win' stands for Windows enabled and 'Zip' because it collects your selected files and stores them as one. It is by far the most time saving program available for Windows. ---My Winzip ... experience---- It all started about 4 years ago for me. I was constantly creating many files mostly MP3, AVI, and loads of codecs types. I was testing video files that were compressed to a maximum, that did not loose any of the original quality. By doing this I found that many files were created on my PC and it was getting harder by the hour to manage them. I then searched the internet for a solution to resolve this problem. The website www.download.com had the answer and it was free to use and there were loads of applications to choose from. The most downloaded application was Winzip around 400 downloads were registered and it had good reviews. Perfect, this application appeared the best means to solving my over populated desktop. The Winzip application is a .exe small application of no bigger than 7MB and now will take less than 30 seconds to download to your desktop. Of course this does determine on your internet connection speeds. ---User ability--- When loading up the .exe file.... yes I must note that I only loaded up the .exe file because of the good reviews. I certainly would not load up the application if I found the file to be a computer safety problem. It is important that you know exactly what the .exe file is before you install it on your computer. The application installation is very simple and works straight away without turning off your computer for it to re-load itself. The evaluation period is set for 30 days, before and money is exchanged. This is $30.00 if you require a full version from www.download.com; though I have found that the evaluation version is effective after the 30 day period. The application is great for extracting Winzip files that have been sent to you and zipping up your own files. A year ago I found that 1000's of ringtones were being Winzipped into 1 file and was compressed adequately, without compromising the audio quality of 56 kbps. You can imagine what my desktop would of been like if the files were sent individually....Helllppp!! ---Emailing--- I've advised many people to send multiple files by zipping them all up first. I had a client, only 6 months ago, who sent files to me individually at one point and wasted hours by waiting for a file to be sent and then uploading another. I quickly introduced the client to Winzip. The big plus for me is that Winzip also is the safest way to send data via email; if there is any adware or trojans, by saving the winzip file to your computer, it still does not infect your computer if extracting the files. By checking the winzip file for viruses by using your own security system. Most potentially harmful files would be detected and cleaned. Then files would be safe to be be extracted and stored on your computer without any nasty surprises. By having files Winzipped in this manner it is a good safeguard for anyone who emails and receives files by attachments. ---Overal impression--- Going back to the 30 day Evaluation period. It is a great means to test out an application before buying this software package, it is what I like about using this method. What I have found helpful is that by not registering the product online and using the Evaluation package. The software loads up and automatically allows the user to use the evaluation version. Though a pop up window does remind you to register the product. Of course it is up to you whether you feel it is worth $30.00. I believe it is worth every penny. Overall it will save you so much time. It pays for itself with days. The downside is the compression, it could be better and I'm sure that now through compression technology the updated versions will include all the latest compression methods. WinZip
by sherqa WinZip is very useful software to compress files and combine many files to a single password protected file and also if you want to copy a single large file which not fit in the floppy disk you can use winzip to compress it and copy it in more than one floppy disk, nowadays nobody is using winzip because of large capacity flash memory ... and cd writers but in old days when there was not flash memory and cd writers most of the peoples were using winzip as compression and copying tool, I am using it since 1993 when the name was PKZip in MS Dos. WinZip
by Spike4874 WinZip is for amatures only. It might have been hot stuff many years ago, but nowadays WinZip just doesn't cut it anymore for hardcore advanced computer users like myself. When I first got my computer about two years ago, I bought and used WinZip because I didn't know any better. I had been using WinZip for two years until last ... week when I got rid of it for good. Last week I downloaded a file over the internet and WinZip could NOT open it. WinZip said that it wasn't a valid file. I soon found out that it was a file made in the RAR format which WinZip can't handle. So I downloaded a program called, WinRAR and WinRAR was able to open the file with no problem. WinRAR is good but it is SLOW and it doesn't handle ALL of the many different file types out there. So now I am trying out a program called, ALZip which is supposed to open every single type of file format out there. So what it comes down to is this: Don't bother with WinZip because one of these days you are going to run into a file that WinZip won't be able to open. Try ALZip instead. Because at least with ALZip you will have an all in one tool that does it all. Read the complete review |
