Launchy is an absolutely fantastic program that will save loads of time for any computer user. It's available as a free download from www.launchy.net, with versions available for Windows and Linux. The download is about 4mb, which shouldn't be a problem for most people nowadays.

Installation is quick and easy - much like the program itself. Once installed, simply press Alt+Space to load Launchy and start typing what you want... if you want to load Firefox, start typing it in and Launchy will quickly come up with a list of programmes for you to choose from. No more clicking on Start, All Programs, then going through your list of folders. Just press Alt+Space and you can access your applications in a matter of milliseconds.

Launchy isn't just an application loader though, you can also use it as a convenient desktop calculator - simply type in your calculation and Launchy will tell you the answer.

I've been using Launchy for a couple of years now and I barely ever even look at my start menu any more. I have it installed at work and at home and it almost feels Draconian using a machine that doesn't have it.
