Advantages: Microsoft badging, speed, flexibility, feature set

Disadvantages: price, you might not like MS

I like microsoft. I'm not a big fan of how Bill does things in the business world but I sure as heck like his programming acumen.

You know that microsoft has money and one big benefit with that is that they start with a crap product and throw money at it until it becomes a good product, then a better product and finally a world beater.

Proxy server will do everything that you require of a proxy server. It'll do it with style, ease and flair. It'll provide every report on every surfer you've got at the push of a button, it'll interface with other backoffice apps perfectly, it'll sit there happily and deal with hundres/thousands of concurrent requests at a time... and yes it will even work as a proxy server. With correct tweaking, etc it'll function as an effective protection layer using firewall technologies.

What you need to ask yourself is what a proxy server with MS on the box does for you. There are plenty of effective proxy servers out there for much less money (Some for more) and plenty which are free. If there's a reason to buy MS then do it without fear. If you've got money thendo it without fear.... if you're on a tight budget and like the look of MS then chances are you're on unsteady ground and should look elsewhere. Compare and contrast with cheaper apps, this way you'll have a happier life with MS proxy if you get it... knowing that you're sitting on a app which costs more for a good reason you understand and came to yourself.
