Skype is the only decent video/call instant messenger I've seen that is really stable and is practically never slow unless your system/internet can't handle it of course. Skype have recently released their latestest version which is Skype 4.0, at first I really disliked it because it never ran on mine or my girlfriends system correctly but obviously what ever stopped it working before was fixed and now we both use this. They've done a lot of updates compared to 3.8 but the part I want to describe the most is the video calls. You don't need a camera OR a mic to have a video call, one of you has to obviously but you don't need to have one if you're calling someone else. This can be freely down from PC to PC but will cost from PC to landline. One great feature that I'm sure everyone will love is the freedom to make the video of the person you're in a video call with small or bigger, heck have it fullscreen, it lets you!

Another recently great feature in the new 4.0 update is the ability to have a group call, now at the moment you can't do group video calls and I'm unsure if Skype will do this, I haven't really checked. But you can have a group call with several people which is awesome! I believe this whole software is user friendly and with experience I think the Skype Customer Service can be a bit sketchy, I recall contacting them via e-mail and the only responses I got for my troubles was basically out of their FAQ when I specifically said I've done everything they say in their FAQ, other than that negative Skype is an awesome VoIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol) is the best around.

One side note, since I have it open now with a video chat ongoing I'd like to point out possibly 3GB of RAM would be nice because on video calls it does like to eat your RAM - though I never feel it.
