Tendring Hundred Waterworks Company was set up in 1884 in an attempt to improve the quality and quantity of the water supply in the busy Harwich port area. The company gradually expanded over the years to supply neighbouring areas and today supplies 150,000 people in 70,000 homes and businesses with 26 million litres of water a day. There are two treatment works and 9 service reservoirs across the Tendring peninsula area and water is transported to its users via 910 km of water mains.
Bournemouth Water and West Hampshire Water were originally established as separate companies way back in 1863 and 1893 and merged into a new joint company in July 1994. They supply an area of 1,041km which includes Bournemouth, Alderney Wimbourne, Ringwood and the New Forest Area. Over 420,000 people are supplied by Bournemouth and West Hampshire water by 2745 km of water mains. 191,000 households are supplied in this area and on average 165 million litres of water are output each day.

Essex and Suffolk Water is part of the Northumbrian Water Group, established after a merge in 2000. They supply water to 1.7 million people in the Essex, south Norfolk and north Suffolk area with 95% of water taken from the regions rivers and reservoirs.
Dee Valley Water was formed in 1997 when Chester Water Company and Wrexham Water Company merged. Dee Valley Water covers North East Wales and the North West of England, in total 831 square kilometres. On average they supply 70 million litres of water per day to over 257,000 customers. Dee Valley operates 7 treatment works and the water is supplied through a network 1970km of water mains and 25 pumping stations.
Welsh Water is the 6th largest water company in England and Wales and provides water supply and sewerage services to over three million people in Wales and some of its adjoining areas. 1.2 million household customers and over 110,000 business customers are supplied by Welsh Water. In the relatively wet area that Welsh Water covers, they abstract 5% of annual rainfall to supply on average about 900 million litres of water a day. To do this, they operate 84 impounding reservoirs, 740 service reservoirs, 106 water treatment works and pump water through a network of 26,800km of water mains.
The Folkestone Waterworks Company was formed in June 1848 and merged in 1953 with The Littlestone Undertaking and in 1970 with The Dover, Hythe & Sandgate Undertakings. Then in March 1989 General Utilities, which is now called Veolia Water, acquired the company and in June 1992 the name was changed to the current title. Folkestone & Dover Water, along with Three Valleys Water and Tendring Hundred Water, who are all owned by Veolia Water, provide 900 million litres of water per day to a population of 3.2 million.
