AmeradaNewest Review: ... more. Yes, it does cost a quid a minute to ring them, but then how often do you ring your utility company? I have used the e-mail query system and always had a prompt (or promptish) reply from them. Their esimated billing service was amazingly accurate in my experience and my only slight complaint would be that they initially set the direct debits up a little on the low side (possibly to ... more |

Amerada is now part of Powergen, and therefore also has Powergen's higher prices :-( I have been a customer of Amerada for several years and have been happy with their service and especially the prices. Powergen will cost me approx 15-20% more. Yes, it does cost a quid a minute to ring them, but then how often do you ring your utility company? I transferred my electricity and gas to Amerada in the Autumn of 2001. A few months later I noticed that I was still getting electricity bills from Seeboard. (Since these are only quarterly I did not notice immediately.) I asked Amerada what was going on and they said Seeboard had made a mistake. I asked Seeboard, and they said Amerada had made a mistake. Through checking the meter number I was able to see that Seeboard were correct and informed Amerada (by telephone, at £1 per minute, of their mistake). A month later, nothing had happened. I emailed Amerada, and there was no record of the telephone conversation. I started from scratch, giving the meter ... Read the complete review

I've been an Amerada customer since February 2002. Cheaper than major energy suppliers (British Gas, YEB) ********** Disadvantages/Problems ******* Amerada run a 9 'til 5, no weekends office operation. It is geared up to respond to ... I read so many opinions that gave Amerada 5/5 that I felt compelled to give you an account of the world of pain that Amerada have caused me. Amerada are a one of the many gas and electricity companies which have popped up in the UK since deregulation of the consumer energy market. They are (or were the last time I checked) the cheapest company of all if you use them for both electricity and gas, are OK with direct debit, and are as happy as I am having electronic billing rather than another bit of paper clogging up your letterbox. I love to conduct as much of my business online as possible because I hate paper, I hate having to call companies between ... Read the complete review

It's amazing to think millions of gas users are stuck with British Gas when they could easily shave their annual fuel bill by switching suppliers. Fair enough, the saving won't be enough to retire on but it could amount to a handy hundred pounds or so a year. The good news is gas companies are falling over each other to sign you up. The bad news is it can take ages to switch suppliers. It has taken me four months to change to my new supplier - Amerada.co.uk, which claims to be the cheapest in the land. I axed British Gas two years ago because of its skyhigh prices and scandalous customer service (it was tardy in connecting our new ... Read the complete review
