We moved to a new town in July, and since the property we moved into was already receiving its electricity supply from British Gas, we decided to stick with them.

When I contacted them, they denied supplying the address, telling me that the address was supplied by another company, but they would transfer service. A few days later, it turned out that they had taken the address down wrong and were trying to take over supply for a different property. When I contacted them, they said that this would be corrected and yes, they did already supply electricity to my address after all.

Another 10 days went by before receiving a letter saying how sorry they were that we had decided not to use them for electricity! I contacted them again explaining in simple terms that we did want electric from them and yes, we did want to pay by direct debit.

We had already given our bank details to them for this purpose and had credit checks performed by BG.

Yet another 10 days went by, when we received a letter thanking us for deciding to take our supply from BG, but perhaps we would like to pay by direct debit rather than cash!

How can such a large, well established corporation survive with undertrained staff?

Needless to say, we have decided to get our electricity elsewhere!
