Advantages: None

Disadvantages: Terrible customer service. Dearest supplier

I have been with British Gas for around two years and have only recently decided to try and change to ScottishHydro. However I have had difficulty in cancelling my current deal. I have been told that I must pay £100 to get out of my contract, which itself is ridiculous. The reason given is because I had my pricing capped, however my monthly direct debit has more than doubled in the last six months so it is hardly capped. they phone everyday and put pressure on my wife to stay with them and are rejecting any attempt by ScottishHydro to change supplier to them. I would like anyone who may have advice to leave a message and let me know if this is correct and what else I can do to get out of this contract. I feel like I am being bullied by a huge company who get away with treating customers like dirt purely because of their size. I strongly recommend anyone who is thinking of going to British Gas to look elsewhere and anyone still with them to change supplier and maybe then they will realise that we as customers are important to them and not just a number and direct debit to them!!!!

Summary: Don't go near them. Bad news

Anna's right - you should raise this with the ombudsman - but don't expect a quick response! :(

I didn't think they were allowed to do that - get in touch with www.energy-ombudsman.org. uk if they keep asking for money you don't owe them. Good luck! :)
