I don't rate British Gas. Ok, so they are the number one and pretty much had the monopoly on our gas supplies until recently but now that there is so much more choice, you can most certainly find a better deal elsewhere.

British Gases prices are higher than some competitor companies for both Gas and Electric. If you speak to them they will try and win you over by telling you that if you choose them over a competitor, they can offer you impeccable service and piece of mind. Now I'm not saying they have a bad service but is it worth all that much more money?

I used to work for British Gas and I most certainly would not rate their customer service. If you want an engineer then the service isn't bad but first of all you have to speak to a customer service advisor. Once you have spent a fortune getting through to one, the service they can offer you is so limited you will shunted from person to person to person getting nowhere. No-one has the power to do anything but transfer you to another department and it is very frustrating.

If you have paid for a special home service where you have a 24 hr support line and an engineer will come out that day, you get a pretty good service but you would expect to when you have to pay for it! If you haven't paid for this service then I don't think that your customer service experience is representative of the extra prices you pay on gas and electricity. Try a different company and see how much you save.
