Brithish gas brilliant for small business (British Gas)

If you are a domestic user British gas are very expensive. For small business they are fantastic I could not find a better deal anywhere.

We were EDF customers for four years, the past two under duress as in 2007 I failed to read a letter they sent out properly. Apparently the letter stated we only had so many days to cancel if we were unhappy with the new tariff unfortunately this resulted in our being tied into an expensive contract for another two years. This issue of unfair practice has been is the news a lot recently, but I am sure a lot of people still think its junk mail and throw the letters away.

This year I read the letter with a fine tooth-comb and it was a good job I did because although prices have come down they were offering a 65% hike, I phoned them and basically they had nothing else to offer. After phoning around for three days and looking on the net British Gas, offered a deal the rate we were paying 2 years ago. I was a bit worried and agreed in principle and waited for the paper work, which when it arrived was correct.
I was also concerned about paying by direct debit as I had read firms were charging what they like, again I was surprised they worked out an agreed amount monthy and we can change the amount if we are in credit. I made sure to ask was the conversation being recorded and they said it was. We are very, very happy.

As this was such a great deal I tried to get the same deal from British Gas for my home supply and they would not give me the same rates, so I am sticking with Southern Electric as after 3 days looking I could not beat their rates.

Be very cautious with Internet compare sites, they do not tell you their unit prices so in the long run you may be worse off. It is easy to read your bill and compare prices yourself with an unbiased view.
