They made my life hell for wishing to move to a cheaper supplier. I used an agent to switch and everything was done above board, to the business standard as set out by energywatch, yet they continually put blocks on the switch and threatened me with out of contract prices even though energywatch were involved and had told them to behave. Then ... Read the complete review

The British Gas website, provides an easy way of providing updating your meter readings, viewing bills and paying for them. Also, when you sign upto online billing they send you 4 free energy efficient light bulbs, which I thought was a nice little touch as a kind of thank you for saving them paper and becoming more energy efficient! I took out British Gas's central heating maintenance contract a few years ago after my heating broke down. I contacted British Gas as I saw them as an experienced company. They agreed to an arrangement where I would take out their Homecare 200 contract and add in around £10 extra a month for the first year to cover the immediate repair. That ... British Gas supply Gas and electricity to millions of people nationwide, and also have a very large business related customer base. I am myself one of these people and would like to share my experiences with them over the past 6 months since purchasing my house. I am writing this review based purely on my recent dealings with British Gas and their bumbling inability to switch me successfully to my new provider. I'll quickly outline what I was aiming to do that caused all the trouble: I decided to move over to Eon for my gas and electricity supply as they offered a much more competitive and ... 6 months ago I moved into a new flat. To be more specific, I kept my previous flat, but I also needed a second flat for work reasons and upon getting the keys from the landlord I found out that the Gas and Electricity where with British Gas. I called British Gas and told them I wanted to move to a different supplier. It took me some ... Read the complete review

UPDATE 28.11.08 When I wrote the review below, prices had gone up by 50% since January 2008, with British Gas agents profusely blaming rise in oil prices for rises in both Gas and Electricity. Fair point? By July oil was at a record $147 a barrel at its peak. Since then oil has collapsed to a 2 year low of $52 a barrel and still falling, I ... Read the complete review

British Gas are the WORST energy company ever, their customer service call centre is is the most fustrating experience and everytime I request to speak to a manager they are either in a meeting or on another call.
I was an n power customer and only left becasue British Gas were cheaper and I am am leaving British Gas as I feel its worth paying a bit extra to get through to people who actually no what they are talking about

I have just written my 3rd letter to B Gas (6 pages). They never replied. Over 6 years they have mixed my meters up with 2 other addresses amoung numerous other things. I've finally changed supplier. NEVER AGAIN. They're the worst company since 3 mobile.

I have every sympathy with the gentleman who had problems with BG. I have been trying to contact them regarding my bill which hadn't as yet materialised after a year! They entered my home while I was out even though the meter is outside, fitted a new meter and sent a card out. Not a problem but when after three attempts of putting credit on the card, it was taking it off for debt which had supposedly been arranged with me. This was £25 a week! I ended up putting £35 in the meter before I lost patience and rang them. I explained I was on benefits but could not afford £25 a week repayments. I was left feeling that it was all beyond my control. After this dreadful experience and when the debt is paid off I will be changing over my gas to someone more competent!!

Make no mistake guys a combination of the energy companies blatant profiteering and New Labor obsession with fleecing us with these divisive and erroneous green taxes is the reason why we are being fleeced over energy prices.
