Advantages: none

Disadvantages: Anything you say just doesn't sink in

Over 3 years ago at a previous property we foolishly agreed to switch our electricity supplier to NPower. We were told that everything would be switched over and we would shortly receive confirmation in the post. No confirmation was ever received and we continued to receive bills from our existing supplier, which we paid. Eventually we received a bill for around £200 from NPower and that's when the troubles began. I noticed that the meter serial number they were charging us for was not our meter (we were living in a block of flats with numerous meters in the same cupboard). We phoned to explain the situation and were told they would look into it. Again nothing further was heard.

In the meantime we moved to another house. After a couple of months another bill from NPower was forwarded to us. So the process began again. We phoned NPower and were told they were still yet to look into the problem. 2 whole years passed!!! and we finally receive a letter demanding over £1100 or be taken to court. Again we went through exactly the same story. We were told that we didn't have to pay the full amount, only for the time we were in the property. Given that they didn't actually supply us and we'd already paid someone else I wasn't pleased.

So I contacted MPAS (Meter Point Administration Services) who confirmed that at no point had the supply been changed and at no point had NPower supplied electricity to that property. I was told to inform NPower of this and suggest they contact MPAS themselves if they wished to confirm this, This I did and while I was on the phone to NPower they checked it out and confirmed everything was ok. I asked for confirmation in writing that the matter was closed and, you guessed it, nothing was ever received.
Now, 6 months later, we receive another letter saying we owe £1100 and will be referred to a debt collection agency!!! And so it continues.
The only amusement I take from this is that I work for a company that supplies software for NPower. Oh, how I long for the day something goes wrong and they contact us for assistance!
Avoid them like the plague.
