Advantages: Sign-up if you like suffering...
Disadvantages: Pushy Salespeople. Expensive. Painful
Having read all previous reviews of Npower, I now see what a fool I've been. Like many of us, we're keen to make savings where possible but I've done anything-but save...
I'd been supplied for over 3 years by British Gas for both Gas and Electricity. I'd have regular payments of £25 for each every month and sometimes one would be increased and the other lowered etc. Any credit we amassed was sent back to us regularly in the form of a cheque. No problems at all, but keen to make savings, Npower had me sold so we signed-up.
Before I continue I need to bring you up to speed with my home. I live in a 1900's 2 bedroomed terraced house with my wife. We have no central heating. Gas is only used for cooking and for a fire in the front room (rarely used) and we both work so you've some idea of our usage.
Npower started us of with payments similar to those of British Gas. However, in June I received a letter from Npower telling me that they'd reviewed my electricity account and that my current payments need to be increased to £113 then they noted that 'This increase will ensure your settlement quarter bill is as small as possible'. SORRY ???? There could be more to pay ? I didn't realise I was running Disneyland in my garden !!! I immediately emailed them and asked how 2 people could have used so much electricity for them to charge me £113 a month, especially as this was through the spring/summer months when you don't use as much electric (lighter nights/able to line-dry clothes etc) and that I was never charged that much with British Gas, who were giving money back!!
I told them that I'd be sending a meter reading to them which was 90161. My latest bill from them is telling me my meter is at 91882. Enough said. I also told them that I would be changing supplier as soon as possible.
My main concern is that I'll get stung for outstanding balances as most other's seem to have. Can anyone offer any suitable advice before their demands start flooding in ???
Summary: Npower of the Dark Side

- 30/11/05 contact energywatch, the energy supply ombudsman. They are very helpful with queries such as yours (I am in a similar sort of dispute with npower at the moment) |
