npower improper use of direct debits (NPower)

I was one of those 'suckers' who didn't take much notice of my bills until I noticed last April/May that I had £1300 credit on my bill with npower. Dipping their hands freely into my account they had managed to build up a nice little excess. I have been on the phone every week since trying to get a refund and compensation with no luck as yet. Keep getting told it'll take 3-4 weeks. Have complained to the Ombudsman and Energywatch and at last seem to be getting their attention but they now (3rd August) say they 'aim' to get it resoved within 10 working days. This improper use of the DD facility smells like fraud to me.
