It seems I am not the only one that npower has tried to rip off. I recently purchased a house which I was renovating, it had a prepayment card meter with npower which I inherited, I had numerous problems trying to get a card in my name which resulted in me having no power at all for a while. Npower reset the meter eventually and sent a card for me. To cut a long story short after renting the property out I had a bill to say I owed money for the electricity, twice I was advised that this was obviously an error as the electric was payed for in advance on the card and no electricity could be used if the meter was not topped up, both advisors said they would have the balance cleared. Of course nothing was actually done and it resulted in me having a letter threatening legal action. I had to take the matter to the directors office to be dealt with, who could not be more apologetic and agreed straight away that it was impossible to owe with a prepayment meter. If this had not been wiped clear by the directors office I would have been taken to court and had adverse credit against my name. I would not advise anyone to consider using npower as it was a hassle from beginning to end.
