My little saga started about 5 months ago. My hubby was at home all alone when a man from Npower called to say would you like to sign up for our gas supply. Our current supplier was good old British Gas. Hubby said yes. As the nice man said you could always change your mind and send the form back with in 14 days and it will be all cancelled. Hubby signed on the dotted line. When I came home. I chucked a fit. Saying that as we get £7.50 off each gas bill with British Gas. Therefore, it was no cheaper going with Npower. I even showed hubby by digging out the old bills and using Npower figures and British Gas. British Gas came out as the winner. We sent the form back. And sat back and waited. We got a letter saying welcome to Npower. I rang them up and chucked a fit. Yes of course we will sort it out. We thought that we had gone back to British Gas. A month letter we got another letter saying thanks for choosing Npower. Rang them up. Yes will sort it. Well this carried on for about two months. In addition, they kept saying we couldn't transfer you back until British Gas has re-set up an account. We told Npower that we had sent the form back. Well we don't have it. Then suddenly, Yes we found it on some ones desk but it is outside of the 14 days. You what, I said baying for blood at this point. Therefore, we don't have to transfer you back. I said why, as it was not our fault. I had to ring customer services at least half a dozen times. We then thought that we had cracked it. Then we got a bill for gas from Npower. We where still with Npower. I told them that I was not going to pay the bill. They said not to. I asked for confirmation in writing about that. I also told them that I would be going to see my solicitor about getting this sorted out as the amount of problems it caused. It caused many arguments between hubby. Then we had the transfer and went back to British Gas.
After about 3 months of trying to get away from Npower. Hooray a British Gas bill arrived. I am have my electric with Npower. However, I am considering moving my electric supply else well. The moral from this story is to take photocopies of every thing that you send away. Keep copies of all the letters that you get from the company. Keep them all in once place that is easy to get access to. Keep a notebook by the phone. Note down times and dates and names of all the people you speak to as well as their title. In addition, note down the outcome. ALLWAYS ask for confirmation in writing. Because if they agree to something and then confirm it in writing and they go back on there word. You have written proof on headed notepaper. Another good ploy that I use. Is say that I will be seeing my solicitor. That normally gets action, as they do not like bad press.
