If anyone from Npower knocks on your door, be careful...this is my recent experience A guy knocked on my door and told me that he was from Npower and asked to check my meters, as my current gas and electric companies were changing over, I wasn't sure what he was talking about. I thought that he was a sales rep and told him that I was quite happy with my current gas & electric providers and wasn't interested. He told me that it wasn't about changing company, and that all gas and electric came from the same source. He sort of confused me, I kept on asking him what he meant, but he never exactly told me, he just kept on waffling. I let him in and he checked my meters (which are both pay as you go style & don't even qualify for the scheme!), he then said that they were fine and he asked for my details name, address etc, then he asked for my bank details. I was begining to feel a bit uneasy, I asked him what for and noticed that there was a direct debit agreement attached to the bottom of the form. I told him that I didn't want to pay by direct debit & that I was happy with my present payment method. He started waffling again, and from what I could understand, it was just to keep on record, in case I changed my mind, so I gave them to him (but not very happy about it). He then asked me to sign the form he had...I queried it again, asking him if this was to change over supplier, he told me no, that it was just for the company to update my details when they changed over. As soon as he had gone, I read the form properly & to my astonishment I had just signed up to join Npower. I called Npower customer services just to check and she informed me that I had just signed up as a new customer and that someone would contact me shortly about the change over. I was absolutely lived, and as only 5 mins had passed since the guy had left, I went to go look for him. I looked up and down my street, but couldn't find him. The
n just as I was coming back indoors, I knocked on my neighbours door to ask her if she had seen him, and also to warn her. Suprise, suprise, there he was in her flat, she had also just been conned into signing up. He was shocked to see me, & had the cheek to ask me how I knew where he was!! I demanded the copy of my agreement back. He refused to give me back Npower's copy of my agreement, then he said that he couldn't find it, but I could see it in his pile of forms, so I just snatched it off of him and tore it up, my neighbour then did the same. By now he realised that he had been caught out, as my neighbour and I were both quite obviously angry. I asked him for his name, so that I could report him & he told me it was none of my business! We were both by now absolutely lived and we told him what we thought of his sales method and then he just told us that we were both stupid women, as we were losing out on saving money, then he walked off! My neighbour and I were absolutely fuming, as someone had come into our homes and totally conned us! I went back indoors and called Npower, after telling what had occured in the last 15 minutes or so, they apologised and said that they would cancel my agreement. It wasn't just the agreement I wanted cancelled, I wanted the sales rep to be pulled up by them as well. I told them how he had lied his way into my home & had I known that he was a sales rep, there is no way he would of got his foot through my door. Still feeling rather unsatisfied, my neighbour and I wrote rather strong letters to Npower to complain about their selling tactics....we recieved a letter back some time later apologising again and saying that the matter would be looked into! So be forewarned...when Npower come knocking just say NO! (unless you want to be a customer).

- 20/08/01 Ooooer! Unless you plan to pay for something NEVER give your bank details. A man from eurobell came to see me the other day and I was quite abrupt with him (bad day). I told him I hadn't heard a nice word about their service on here and so no thank you, I didn't want the service. He was quite taken aback but there was no level of persistence shown thankfully! Thanks for the warning about Npower. Sounds like a Watchdog investigation might be needed {;0). Also, whilst I'm whittering on, welcome to DooYoo! I'll go now! |
