When I called Npower to notify them about moving house I received a "no problem and we can keep you on your existing internet tariff." No chance. This slip-shod company's systems saw it as an opportunity to place us on a standard tariff. We discovered this recently when calling them to notify them about a move to a competitor -- they also told us we owe them several hundred pounds even though we were paying £60 a month dual fuel direct debit. When querying the amount, we get a different figure each time we speak to a new operator.
Inefficient. Poorly run. Contradictory information. Dubious tariff practices. Unclear pricing policy. Very poor customer service.
Save yourself unnecessary grief. Choose another provider.

After being an N Power customer for numerous years, I had no option but to move earlier this year because N Power had doubled my direct debits. It has been one long nightmare ever since trying to finalise my bills with them. It is now June and I am no further forward. The staff are useless and please be aware when asking for a supervisor to help which I did thinking they would know what they are doing and saying THEY DONT!! Not only that they never ring you back or send letters when promised they will. It is costing me a fortune in phone calls to them trying to reslove this. I have now contacted the energy ombudsman to help me. Take my advice
STAY AWAY FROM
N POWER.

Npower are possibly even more hopeless than B G at getting simple matters sorted out. First they chose to - incorrectly - estimate my opening meter readings - in spite of the fact that I tried 4 times to give them my correct readings, over the web and via phone. I have now left this diabolical incompetent company and changed to Southern who on first impressions seem efficient and friendly and there is always someone answering phones. NPower - avoid at all costs. We moved 12 months ago from PowerGen and it was a bad mistake. They've never bothered to read the meter. Set our DDM at £50 per month and then 12 months later when we owed them £400 wanted to increase this to £186 per month or put another way well over £2000 per annum, When we declined to pay this amount within 14 days they placed our account with a debt collection agency and threated to take us to court and impose further court fees. Never owed a bean to anyone and feel completely affronted at their actions and attitude

I had an horrific experience with NPower when i employed them to install a new gas boiler. If you read all the advertisements and sales literature, you believe your work is going to be done in a professional manner. The truth is they sent a guy in who had only worked for them a few weeks and whose work had not been checked. He left my central heating system in an awful state and i had to call in British Gas to conduct a safety assessment. I was told the pump had been fitted incorrectly and the whole job was substandard. He left a hole in my kitchen and dropped cement over my drive which is now ruined. I wrote to complain in December and have still not had a written reply. DO NOT USE NPOWER FOR GAS BOILER INSTALLATIONS - THEY DO NOT HAVE THE EXPERTISE.

I amassed debt with NPower due to periods of employment and unemployment in 2007. Debt collecters sent letters and to which I replied when in a position to pay the full amount due £251. One day last month, I returned home from work to discover my neighbours called National Grid who disconnected my supply due to a serious gas leak. I paid £306 for reconnection and repair of my faulty boiler. I couldnt now pay the promised debt to Npower (mortgage/council tax arrears) I contacted them to explain, however my supply was disconnected. Now in a position to pay, Npower said I had to have a prepayment meter fitted, I agreed reluctantly and the payment plan to clear the arrears through prepayment. Npower are demanding £550 (amount to date), refusing to fit the meter unless I pay this in full. I am without heating, hot water and cooking facilities.
