Advantages: Cheap, Internet based

Disadvantages: None yet

My titles just get worse! I really have been impressed with Powergen. As far as I can see, they're great. I live in a flat and my electricity and gas consumption is therefore low. I was fed up with paying standing charges, with very low fuel charges. So, I opted for Powergen.

CASHBACK
They give £50 cashback on joining (that's a good 6 weeks of power for me!).

GAS
I get my gas from Powergen, and the price is (inc VAT)
Primary Rate (p/kWh) 2.370 for first 1143 kWh
Secondary Rate (p/kWh) 1.320 for the remaining

ELECTRICITY
I also get my electricity from Powergen, and the price is (inc VAT)
Primary Rate (p/kWh) 9.986 for the first 290 kWh
Secondary Rate (p/kWh) 5.933

PHONE
The phone charges are 3p and 4p daytime (8am-6pm)local and national respectively, and 1p and 2p at all other times. These are only the call charges. On top of this is the normal BT standing charge. The service for the phone is via a dial-up box (so no having to pre-dial numbers to be routed via Powergen).

MONTHLY PAYMENTS
I pay £50 monthly for all three services (which I think is good value for money). The more services you get from Powergen, the more the discount. The savings for paying by Direct Debit are up to £25 annually, and £7.50 for subscribing to Onebill (receiving only one quarterly bill for all three.

Of course, on top of this, I have to pay my normal line rental to BT.

CONVENIENT
After I receive my bill, which is an estimate, I put in the right meter readings on my Online Powergen account, and when my new bill arrives I can ask for a refund of my direct debit overpayment (which is done within 2-3 working days). I usually get a refund of some £25 quarterly - which is really good.

CUSTOMER SERVICES
The customer service department are very friendly, and are willing to help with all problems, however minor! However, the meter reading service is a computer which is a pa
in. I've had no reason to use this much though as the internet service is so convenient.

All in all, a good service. Well organised, good value for money. Transferring to them is easy as well, and they do all the running around. They also keep in contact with you throughout the process to tell you where they are. It usually takes 6 weeks.

I'd say don't delay, and sign up for them online as soon as possible. It really is good value for money.

I would worry about a firm that offers cashback on joining, basically it's a bribe. Qsk yourself why they need to do it. Out of all who have commented on Powergen, I can only assume you yourself are an employee of Powergen. Cheap self promotion.

They do sound good, but without checking my own suppliers, it's hard to tell if their rates are competative. Good review though. Fishbulb >><>??
