Advantages: cheap!

Disadvantages: HUGE bill when it eventually appears!

Do you want free electricity for a year? I bet you would and this op will tell you how to get it. Its really quite simple - all you do is sign up with Scottish Hydroelectric.

To start from the very beginning in my area the main electricity supplier has always been hydroelectric. Ever since I moved here that's who I have got my electricity from. When I moved for the umpteenth time (you know what its like being a student or even an ex one!) I phoned Hydroelectric and let them know. I gave them all the details of my new house, the reading from my old house and the reading from my new house. Having moved so many times I'm a bit of an expert when it comes to dealing with electricity and phone companies. Everything was hunkdory. They sent the bill for my old house to my new address and off I went.

By Xmas I was getting a bit suspicious. I had been in the house for four months and I was due a bill. When everyone else got an electricity bill except me I was very suspicious. As it was just before Xmas I thought I would wait until I got back from the holidays and see if it eventually appeared. After Xmas - nothing. I phoned Hydroelectric and eventually found out that my account had not been set up correctly. While I thought I was paying a set amount each month by direct debit, I was in fact paying nothing. I know I should have noticed that the money wasn't coming off when I got my bank statements but, hey, who reads them?! The woman promised that it would be all sorted out and that a bill, prepared using the up to date reading I had provided, would be forthcoming. Four weeks later still no bill. I phoned up again to be told that it was the billing department that was causing the hold up and they would be told to hurry up. Well four weeks on and I'm still waiting.

This is rather annoying as when my bill does appear its going to be rather large as I've been here for 6 months now and not paid anything for my elect
ricity. One more phone call and then I'm off to complain to OFGEM which is the independent watchdog for electricity and gas customers. I know that Hydroelectric will suddenly realise that they are not getting any money from me and I don't want to be caught out.

There are some good points to Hydroelectric and I feel that I should point them out. The electricity is quite cheap and I have yet to find anyone who can offer me a better deal. I can pay a set amount each month to spread the cost of my electricity over an entire year and I can also collect air miles. Of course none of this applies to me at the moment, as I don't actually have an account with them - or maybe I do? Who knows - they certainly don't!

Watch this space for breaking news!

UPDATE - 21st March
I have eventually received a bill from Hydroelectric. The bill covered the period from September to December. I phoned up to see what was happening and I was told to ignore this bill as there was another one coming for December to March that had been posted that day! So I am anxiously waiting the arrival of a super-dooper bill that is based on an estimate for the past 6 months! I have been told to ignore the next bill and the one I currently have and phone up with an actual reading for a precise bill!
I may actually be getting somewhere now!

UPDATE - 26th March
Well thanks Hydroelectric. I now have a bill for £191 not bad for 7 months I suppose but still a lot of money for me to pay out in one go. Needless to say I will be paying this bill on my terms!
Hopefully that is now the end of all this and I hope you enjoyed this never ending saga!

Good idea but it took me so long to find a flat that i really like that I don't want to move again in a hurry! See your point though!

Why not move again quickly before any bill arrives, then deny you ever lived there!
