Advantages: Absolutely nothing
Disadvantages: Totally incompetent
1) I phone Scottish Power telling them I have moved in and want to set up my gas and electricity accounts - no problem they say. 2) I phone a couple of weeks later because they havn't sent me any account details - they have no record of me setting up an account, but will do it now - I'm told they will not give me an account number until I receive my first bill in six months - not good. 3) I move out a few months later - phone the number I was told to phone (still don't have any account details though). I'm told my final statements will be sent to my new address. 4) Hear nothing for a month - email their customer services giving full details of meter readings, address and my previous phone calls which I had logged (thank goodness). 5) Hear nothing for two weeks - email again. 6) Hear nothing for two weeks - phone and demand to be put through to the customer services manager. Get an apology - told I will be sent final bills. 7) Get a phone call from above manager telling me they do not supply the gas and I have to call Transco to find out who does - I'm getting annoyed now. 8) Get a letter from above manager addressed to "Mrs..." last time I checked I was male! 9) Get electricity bill, but I've been magically put onto economy 7 without my knowledge and overcharged by a few hundred units. It turns out they've used my meter reference number as a second reading - doh! The address on the bill is some wierd hybrid that only bears a slight resemblance to the real address. 10) Phone customer services and get given a load of excuses about how none of it is their fault...and, by the way, apparently they do supply the gas. They suggest I give up my time to give them access to the meters, despite the fact I had moved out two months previously - at this point I go ballistic. 11) The saga continues... :( I don't know if this is sadly typical
of utilities these days, but I've had reasonable service from the water and sewerage suppliers. I also know that half the time I've phoned they've been unable to bring up my account details, and have been scribbling details on bits of paper instead - do they have working computer systems? If you're even half thinking about using Scottish Power, honestly just don't do it!

- 13/11/02 Hi
I saw your comment as I am having difficulties with Scottish Power. So I searched the internet and found the Cheif Executives name. I then looked for email addresses to get the domain. Put the 2 together and came up with Ian.Russell@scottishpower .plc.uk. I emailed him and brought him up to speed on my problem. He mailed me back within an hour and has one of his seniors assisting me.

So, how do you complain about this kind of service - has anyone had any luck with Ofgem? |
