Until a month or two ago I regularly used my Dyson DC04 to clean my home and had an array of tools to use with this. Some came with the hoover when I received it second hand and some of them I received from a friend when she stopped using her Dyson in favour of something a little different (an 'automatic' hoover). When I upgraded from my now broken DC04 to a Dyson Digital slim I was pleasant surprised to see that my new vacuum could also have these attachments connected to them.
This mattress tool is one that I purchased from Amazon for just over £10.00. This seemed to be a very reasonable price to me and if it helped to improve the quality of sleep on my mattress then I was more than willing. The current price of this appears to be just under £12.00 which again I find to be incredibly reasonable. This is a larger, wider version of a tool that I already have for my Dyson but I was not sure on that until my package arrived. I was pleased with this though as the upholstery tool that I already have is fantastic if a little time consuming to use.
This tool is a grey colour so goes with most Dyson hoovers, mine is purple with some grey so it looks fine although to be honest I am not that bothered about the look of my hoover anyway as long as it is functional. This tool is very simple to use and it clips on to the hose of my Dyson easily enough. As the fitting on my Dyson is a slightly different fitting to most others it does sit on there nicely but it is not completely 'clicked' in to place, however this does not effect how I use this tool at all.
This tool works incredibly well. I am able to hoover my whole mattress in just over a minute or two, I have also used this on my sofas and on my cats bedding with great effectiveness.
Overall I am very pleased with the quality of this tool. On the first occasion that I used this on my mattress I was incredibly surprised by the sheer amount of dust and dirt that was collected in my hoover. I had to empty the bin on my Dyson (as it is only small) twice when I did my mattress for the first time along with two of my sofa chairs. This just goes to show how much dirt and dust can be stored in a mattress, pillows and other items that we often sleep naked on every single day!
I have a Dyson DC25 vacuum cleaner and although I'm happy with it, I find that the upholstery tool is rather small for my needs. My sofa is made from a textured fabric (sort of like a thick corduroy type effect) and I find that it needs to be vacuumed thoroughly every couple of days to keep it looking in nice condition. As the upholstery tool is on the small side it was taking me absolutely ages to go over the whole sofa, so I looked online to see if I could find something larger.
Although this tool is designed for mattresses I thought it would be ideal. Of course I do actually vacuum my mattress as well to get rid of dust mites, so for me this would serve two purposes. The price did put me off buying it at first, but a few months ago I noticed it had been reduced a huge amount on Amazon, so snapped one up while they were still cheap!
The mattress tool is a silvery grey in colour and has the Dyson logo on the front. It came in a black, cardboard box which is much larger than the item itself. The mattress tool is made from dark grey plastic and is similar in appearance to the standard upholstery tool which I believe is included with most Dyson models. The mattress tool just clips onto the hose, but you do get a small piece of plastic which is like an extension - I believe this is for older models, which have a different connector. It seems well made, the plastic is very sturdy and I can't imagine it would break very easily.
There's not a huge amount I can say about this product, but since purchasing it, I have noticed that it has cut my cleaning time down considerably - especially when vacuuming the sofa. When we moved to our house I had to use the standard upholstery tool to clean the stairs (the mattress tool was lost in a box somewhere at the time) and I was on ages doing the whole lot. This tool makes the job so much easier. The suction from the vacuum cleaner is just as strong even though this tool is quite wide and I've had no problems with it picking up. I should note, that it also has a velvet strip on the underside which catches any hairs or fluff well.
The only real negative about this product is the price. On Amazon at the moment it is £11.99 which is a lot for a piece of moulded plastic. I've seen it at even higher prices than this too - Currys for example are charging £15.99. Looking back through my order history I can see I paid £5.95, but that is the one and only time I've seen the price that low. It is worth checking often though to get a good deal.
Overall, if you have a Dyson and you have large areas of upholstery which you need to vacuum, or are sick of vacuuming the mattress with a tiny upholstery tool, then this is a product worth having.
