For quite some time I have been hankering after a steam mop, the thought of whizzing around my home quickly and hygienically cleaning my tiled and laminated floors held great appeal. I longed for the days when I did not have to lug my mop and bucket upstairs to the bathroom or have to wait an age for the tiles to dry. Then the day finally arrived and I got my hands on a Vax steam mop, I can't find it in the Dooyoo product lists and the suggestions are not open yet so I will satisfy myself with reviewing the Coral Cleaning Pads that I brought with my steam mop.
After reading review on Amazon uk stating that the mop heads that come with the Vax steam mop are a bit rubbish I decided to purchase a couple of genuine Coral Cleaning Pads. A pack of two pads cost me £9.15 from Amazon uk but it is worth keeping an eye on the price as I have seen them selling for a little more or a little less at times.
The blue coral pads attach easily to most steam mops via the drawstring. All I had to do was fit the coral pad over the steam pad and pull it snug and secure it using the toggle. The blue coloured coral pads feel lovely and soft and very strong so I am assured they will last a while and will treat my tiled and laminated floors well.
The coral pad glides easily over the floors and does not impeded the flow of steam in anyway. The arms of the coral pad gather up small bits of debris that lazy old me has not swept up prior to steam mopping. The coral pad gets into all the nooks and crannies and I feel confident that I am cleaning all areas of my floors with these pads. The coral pads leave my floor much dryer than the white micro fibre pads that I have previously used and the grout between my floor tiles looks cleaner than it did before.
I personally consider these a must buy with a Vax steam mop and I can't understand why Vax do not include one in the box as standard.
The coral cleaning pads can be machine washed at 40 degrees or less and they continue to wash up like new every time, I do not add fabric conditioner when I wash my coral pads as fabric conditioner can affect the absorbency of some materials.
I highly recommend these for Vax steam mop owners.
Thank you for reading.
I have a bit of a confession to make here: I have recently turned into one of those poor, sad individuals that develops a strong and unnecessary attachment to certain cleaning products. After purchasing a steam mop earlier this year and raving about it to all my friends, I have also started to buy little accessories for it and these Vax Coral Cleaning Pads are the subject of my latest rave review. I purchased mine from www.amazon.co.uk for around the £10 mark which is a good saving against the RRP of £15.99.
A steam mop works by heating water and directing it in a steady flow through the mop head, which is fitted with a cover. You sweep the mop over the floor surface and the heat and pressure of the steam helps any dirt to lift away more easily, giving sparkly clean floors with a minimum of effort. I think this method of cleaning is excellent as it is very simple, and completely avoids the horrible scenario of kneeling on a cold tiled floor with a sponge and a bucket of hot, soapy water which will inevitably lead to pruney hands, sore knees and an achey back, not to mention a slippy wet floor.
The downside is that the mop covers can get dirty quite quickly, and need to be washed frequently to ensure that they are not storing up excess dirt. I thought it would be a good idea to invest in some spare covers, and was intrigued by the Coral design as it looked kind of fun and silly. The Vax Coral Cleaning Pads are suitable for use with all Vax triangular-head Steam Mops, including my beloved Vax S2 Hard Floor Master Upright Steam Stick. It has a triangular shape with a large edging section that fastens securely with a toggle drawstring to ensure that the cover stays firmly in place while the mop is being used. You can then loosen it again to slip the cover off for washing. The Coral pads have a bright blue colour and the underside is covered in droopy tendrils which does indeed make it look like a piece of coral. The idea is that the individual fibres will provide a larger overall cleaning surface and trap dirt more effectively.
I have been hugely pleased with my Coral pads as they are super effective, and are much more efficient than the standard fabric covers that came with my mop when I initially purchased it. The bobbly fibres really manage to work their way into all the grooves between my flooring providing an all-over clean without the need for persistent scrubbing. The fabric is quite thick and durable, and is very absorbent which is important as the constant flow of steam does not make the cover go too wet and soggy, and it seems to spread well over my floors. The fabric is more dense and hardwearing, yet it still feels very soft to the touch and is safe to use on all sorts of different hard floors. I often use this in my kitchen to clear up any stains from spills when I have been preparing food, and it provides a thorough deep clean to all of my hard floor surfaces. The pads really are effective at picking up dirt, and they manage to collect all of the dust, loose hair and other bits of muck that accumulate on my floors from day to day. The dirt seems to get trapped within the tendrils and stays there so you do not have to worry about spreading the dirt around as you move from room to room to continue cleaning. The pads are machine washable and so I get them clean in my washing machine along with my other regular laundry load for items such as towels and bedding. Each box contains 2 cleaning pads so you have a spare and can alternate between using the two of them if one is waiting to be washed, or if you have hard floorings throughout your whole house and it regularly needs a deep clean then you might even find that you need to switch to the second one to get the job done.
I think this is certainly a worthwhile purchase to make if you already have a steam mop. The Coral pads have really enhanced the results that I get and made my life even easier as they are so effective. I can definitely recommend them to go with the Vax range of steam mops, and much prefer using these to the plain original covers.
