Vax H90-GA-B Gator Handheld Vacuum Cleaner
by upsy
I bought this vacuum cleaner because I wanted something to vacuum the stairs and small spaces with, for a reasonable price. I paid around £30 for it, which is a pretty decent price I think.
I have a dog and two cats, and so as you can imagine, there are always animal hairs around the house that drive me mad! I am a bit of a ... clean freak and so like to vacuum very regularly, and so need a vacuum that will easily pick up animal hairs from my carpets.
It is so much easier to use this handheld vacuum for the stairs, rather than a full size vacuum cleaner, as it is so much lighter to use and so much less hassle than having to balance a big vacuum on the stairs. It is also great that it is cordless, as it means you can run around the house vacuuming wherever you like, rather than having to keep stopping in order to plug it in to another socket.
I have found, however, that this product struggles to pick up animal hairs from my carpetted floors, and it takes much repetition in order to get my stairs to look half decent. I do, on the other hand, believe that it would be a good vacuum in houses free of pets, as even my full-size Vax that is designed to pick up pet hairs struggles to get rid of the animal hairs on my carpets.
The Vax needs to be on charge for a number of hours for it's first charge, as otherwise it dies pretty much straight away. I have found that the battery life is disappointingly short on this vacuum, however, this may be because I have to go over and over my carpets in order to get rid of pet hairs.
The vacuum comes with a little pull-out thin piece to clean crevices. It is a good idea in theory, as this piece can simply be pulled out of the vacuum, however, I have found that when trying to use this smaller piece for crevices, it simply gets pushed back into the vacuum whenever I try to use it, which is disappointing.
Overall, I would recomment this handheld vacuum as a useful little product, however, if like me you have pets, it might be advisable to purchase a more powerful handheld vacuum. Read the complete review |

Dyson DC19
by ronny1948
I purchased this dyson from Argos after reading all the rave reviews,It was great at first the suction was wonderful,Then after using it for 8 months the suction is now only half at what it should be, It was still on the one year guarantee so I took it back to argos where I purchased it from ,They would not exhange it or refund my money ... they were on the phone to Dyson for 20 minutes testing out the machine in the end they said they would send a man out to have a look at it?
This machine is far far to overpriced you can get a henry for £100 which is a far better machine and now they sell cloth bags for the henry you need never buy another bag again
I was led by the hype and reviews on amazon into buying this machine ,I am certain people on here who have left 5 star reviews hardly ever use the machine,or if they do leave 5 stars in the beginning would they leave 5 stars now?
This dyson vaccum cleaner is far to overpriced and unreliable and remember they do not honor the guarantee
They now offer you a 5 year guarantee but this is because WHICH magazine would not recommend this Dyson machine until they offered a 5 year guarantee
Trouble is they don't honor the guarantee, all in all I am sorry I purchased this overpriced Dyson I have put it up for sale on Ebay and have now purchsed a HENRY and I am now quite contented
I have given it one star if I could give Zero stars I would Read the complete review |

Dyson DC01
by scuba_angel
When I moved most recently it wasn't until the day before I was due to leave my old house that I realised that my ex partner had taken our vacuum cleaner with him (along with all of our forks but thats a story for another time!) so I was suddenly moving out of a house with no easy way to clean it on my departure. A quick phone call to my ... ever suffering father turned up a pleasing coincidence as he had just bought himself a new Dyson vacuum cleaner and hadn't yet got rid of his old one.
So when he drove down to help me move my larger furniture items he also put in his old Dyson DC01.
The DC01 was the original Dyson bagless vacuum cleaner and at the time an absolute revelation - this particular model had been in my father's home for as long as I could remember- certainly it had been resident in the space under the stairs since we got the Dalmation puppies in 2000 so I was amazed that it had lasted as long as it has.
These days the silver plastic of the body is slightly discoloured to more of a dirty grey with silver flecks, but the yellow trims are still brightly coloured. The clear plastic dirt holder is not particularly pleasing to look at but this is a cleaning device after all! My old faithful cleaner has had the extending section replaced after the puppies chewed it so instead of Dyson silver it has an unbranded red section replacing the original silver and the hose is somewhat shorter than it used to be. But none of this has affected its functionality.
On leaving my old house I had thought that the room my ex had been storing his possessions in until he left was as clean as it could get but after running the Dyson around the room there was a considerable quantity of dirt in the machine.
Moving in to my new flat I have found that other than some incredibly well ground in dirt (I worked very hard to get it that well rubbed in to the floor - another story for another time I think) nothing I've dropped on my carpet has remained there after a quick run out with the Dyson.
The main problem I have is that due to the small size of my flat there are corners between furniture and the walls which the Dyson is simply too wide to fit in to - the most annoying area like this is between the foot of my bed and the wall, but it is easy enough (if a little time consuming) to use one of the attachements on the end of the extender hose to clean this section.
As my flat is on the first floor I have to take my turn in cleaning the communal stairwell shared between my flat and my neighbours, I find that the slightly shortened Dyson hose will reach all but the furthest three stairs, so on a typical 'as standard' hose you really could comfortably reach the entire staircase.
The Dyson is quite heavy but not overly heavy and for me I find that it's a good height without being too small or too tall as to make it hard to manoever.
Given the age of my Dyson I'm impressed at how hardwearing it is and how efficient it still is.
These days despite being practically prehistoric technology you can still buy a DC01 for around £70 (this is an average selling price according to eBay), to buy new filters for it will cost around £6, and recommendation is that these are changed every 3 -6 months. Read the complete review |
