Advantages: powerful machine
Disadvantages: difficult to clean
I bought this model of Bissell about 4 years ago from Ideal World (shopping channel) and I think it cost £119 with 3 free bottles of shampoo plus free p&p.
To be honest I don't buy much now from Ideal World as I find them difficult to communicate with - but on this occasion I decided to go ahead for 4 reasons-
1. The price - £35 cheaper than John Lewis
2. Free delivery on this heavy item
3. 30 day money-back guarantee
4. Loved the demo on TV
I've been very pleased with this carpet shampooer, but I've also had a few problems with the design so will be contacting Bissell very soon.
The unit itself is fairly heavy, especially when full, but then it IS a powerful machine.
Instructions are easy - you just fill the tank with warm water, add the shampoo and off you go...
There are 2 settings
1 is for carpets
1 is for hard floors and furnishings
The main part is for carpets but there is also a hose with a brush which is great for doing the stair carpet or for 'spot' cleaning as well as cleaning small areas.
There are a variety of fragrances - I like the original and the lavender. Bissell also do them in orange, for hard floors and homes with pets. You can buy these cheaper on ebay...
The machine itself does the trick if you follow the clear instructions
However, as I said earlier, I have experienced a couple of problems -
1. it is difficult to clean as much of the body is moulded together - I'm finding that ot is clogging up now & I can see the dirt & fluff but no way to remove it
2. the carpet brush roller (which does all the work as far as I can tell) has now collapsed so I think it must need replacing - agian something I can't fix myself
BUT don't let me put you off - this is a great machine!
Summary: a great carpet cleaner - however....

- 22/07/08 A lot more info required here which would benefit consumers. You could also give a bit more experience with factors such as:
Tank capacity, i.e. how far can you go on one tank without refilling?
Do you have to clean the tank after every use? Is it easy to fill?
Is it noisy when used?
What's the overall quality like?
Does it give any indication when the water runs out?
This is an excellent model but your review could do with a bit more info which will entice consumers either to this machine or the brand itself.
Crucially the model also heats up cleaning solution which is different to other models on the market as well as using hand/lukewarm tap water - thats why the Smart Mix dial is included on the machine.
Its a possibility that if the roller brush has stopped spinning it may need a new drive belt. You can find all about replacing the belt on page 17 of the user manual..
