      handy to have.

I purchased this item mainly for using in my car, but I've found it great for little jobs in the house too as it's perfect for sucking up crumbs etc or using in smaller spaces. The charge on it doesn't last all that long though, on average around 12 minutes I found. The other disadvantage is that as the charge wears down, so does the suction, so you only get full suction probably for about 8 minutes or so and the full suction isn't all that powerful either. That said, it doesn't do bad. It's very handy for tidying up your car and doing your house stairs, but it doesn't suck up deep down, more just what's on the surface. Also you have to remember to keep twisting the barrell every so often so that it doesn't block up. It's very easy to empty, just open the side door and tip out. I find this a very useful item for 'in between' hoovers and a quick tidy up but the charge doesn't last long enough for anything more. If this item could be improved, it would be for a longer charge time and an improvement on suction power, but not a bad little item to have around the home.

waste of money, will be buying a Dyson handheld next time

I have a three storey house, and so two flights of stairs. We sometimes wear shoes in the house, ergo, dirty stairs. We also get a lot of dust in the house, and we have a lot of furniture, so dusting everything by hand can be time consuming and tiring. Carrying our 5.8kg Miele vacuum up and down the stairs is not something we like doing all the time, so we looked around for a handheld vacuum we could buy. We eventually decided on the Dustbuster Pivot Handheld Vacuum Cleaner in grey which was £89.99, however, when we arrived at Currys, even after phoning in to ask if it was in stock, we were told there were none in stock and they had sold out. So unfortunately we had to go with the next one down, the Dustbuster PD1080-GB in white and red, for £79.99. This is a product that we completely regret buying. When we took it home we read the instructions and it said that we had to charge it for quite a few hours before use. We practically had it on charge all day, and when it was done charging, we decided to try it out. It seemed to be quite good, and it vacuumed all of our surfaces and the stairs adequately. It does not have a very strong suction however, and the one huge fault that we noticed, was that after approximately 10 minutes of use, it had discharged and was not sucking anything up. We then charged it again, and the same thing happened. We are so disappointed with this. There are a couple of good points about this, as it is bag-less so there is no need to buy endless amounts of bags and filters for it, and the contents are easily emptied into the bin. The vacuum lights up blue when it is on charge and lets you know when it is done charging which is useful for saving energy. The extendible arm is not really needed as its a handheld any way. However, I would not buy another Black and Decker handheld vacuum again, next time I will be buying a Dyson handheld as obviously you cannot trust this brand. Very disappointed.

      -

I have a lovely vacuum cleaner - a Vax Swift - that sucks up dirt brilliantly. The only problem is that I broke the little flap that allows extension hoses to be plugged in allowing my to get into corners and crevices . A bit of a pain in the bum, as that vacuum now works as a standard push-along upright only. I needed something for the edges, for the bits down the back of the sofa, and of course, for the stairs - there is no way I'm trugging an upright hoover up and down the stairs all the time, not to mention there are no plugs near the stairs. I'd moaned about this often to my parents, and for christmas was delighted to recieve a Black and Decker Dustbuster Flexi. You can see from the picture above that it is quite a cute little thing, the way its hose coils over itself to clip tidily into the casing, leaving no hose lying about . And there is onle one tool, which in the picture you can see attached. This is already winning some points from me on being quite a nice little gadget in the looks department - no tangled wires (due to it needing to be charged up rather like a mobile phone) and no bent messy hose. The colour of this is mainly silver, with a few red and white accents . It comes ready assembled, so no messing around there, and it needs a full 16 hour charge before use - rather a lot like a new mobile phone. Still, 16 hours is more than enough time to read the instruction manual, so lets see if the there are any shockers contained within. It also gives me a handy chance to read all the stats! The charger itself was much like a mobile phone charger , a big blocky white plug, a thin wire, and a thin silver connection to the hoover . For anyone who is particularly interested, the weight of the charger is 0.5 kg. I can glean from the manual that there are actually three different models of this vac - The Auto Flexi PD1200, which somes with along crevice tool, as well as the narrow brush tool I got with mine, and plugs into an in-car charger. Then we have the Household Dustbuster Flexi PD1200 which charges at the mains, and has both a long crevice tool, and the funny narrow brush, AND a turbo brush . And then mine, the Dustbuster Flexi PD1080, which comes with just the little narrow brush, which apparently, according the menu, is a 'combination nozzle'. Doesn't clarify a lot really, just gives the tool a posh name! The tools itself is quite funky though - look at it one way and its a simple angled nozzle, but flip the top bit over and it's a simple angled nozzle with a brush! The manual also instructs that you should not charge the appliance with it still switched on . Now, I can't imagine why anyone would do that, but I guess there must be a few fools out there or they wouldn't include that! I have to say that I did like that when my little vac was charging, there was a lovely pale blue light that lit up on it, so I knew it was charging. It was very pretty, and matched my christmas lights perfectly! After charging, it was time to try out my little vac. The first thing to tackle was those bloody stairs, which I'm ashamed to admit hadn't been vacuumed for some time, due to the impracticality of heftin my heavy vac up the stairs. However, at a mere 1.6 kg, my handy dustbuster was just the right weight for the job , and I found the handle to be very comfortable to grip. You can detach the hose from the handle, and it stretches to 1.5 metres, making it very easy to manouvre this into tight creases and cracks to get all the muck out . With more use, I can also say it is excellent for hoovering the tops of furniture, the dusty drawer inside my computer desk, and down the back of the sofa . I have to say, I was pretty impressed with the suction of this, but rather shocked by how noisy it was. For some reason I had assumed that smaller might mean quieter . I was clearly wrong in this assumption, but if it was doing the job, I wasn't going to fuss . While this sucked up surface dirt easily enough, it just wasn't picking up up hair - so I turned to the 'combi nozzle' and flipped the top over for the bristly brush, which did a good job of grabbing the hair out of the carpet, although it didn't seem to move as smoothly as I would have liked. Nevertheless, it did the job . The gunk storage thingy (I'm sure it has a technical name, but I don't know what it is) is actually quite small . By the time I hoovered half the stairs, it was pretty full and time to empty it, which was really incredibly simple .The hatch in the side is a simple lift the flap job and you can tip the dust right into the bin without having to touch the dust . The inner filter can be taken out and wiped down with a dry cloth . On the plus side, the door is transparent so you can see how full it is . The power on this hoover lasts for about 10 minutes on a full charge, which is pretty good . However, a deteriation in suction starts at about 7 minutes - you can tell when this is running out of juice . I think to be fair this is fairly good for a hoover that is really only intended to do those jobs other hoovers just can't reach . Any downsides? Well, yes, a couple of tiny niggly things. Although the hoover has a little light indicating when it is plugged in to a charger, there is nothing on the hoover to indicate how close to fully charged it is . Also, the combi tool, in either its smooth or bristled incarnation, does not move smoothly across my stair carpet, and seems to catch easily. And I really do think this is very noisy . However, I also think this is very goods. It is easy to use, easy to charge, easy to empty, lightweightm and is comfortable to grip . There are no cumbersome wires, and all tools can be stored on board making it really a very neat and tidy appliance . I'm not aware of how much my parents paid for this with it being a gift, but Pixmania have it for 54.05, which I certainly think is a very good price. I really like this,I think it's brilliant for getting to all the places my normal vacuum cleaner can't reach, and I very much recommend it. It has a few down sides, which I've already covered, and for those I deduct 1 star . 4 stars!
