Good bit of kit for anyone into DIY not so much for a building site

I bought the Dewalt DC515K a couple of years ago second hand, but it has lasted well. I tend to do a lot of DIY so when my Henry Hoover packed in I decided to get a job specific vacuum.

The Dewalt DC515Kis a half gallon, dry/wet vacuum. It is cordless and comes with an 18 volt battery and battery charger. The battery lasts quite a long time and you can you the battery supplied for other DeWalt tools (such as Drills, etc) and use their batteries in turn. The Dewalt DC515K is not heavy but you can still tell that it's built to last and a few knocks won't break it.

It has a thick 2ft flexible hose for getting into awkward corners although the suction could be better when it comes to certain objects such as large nails, screws or pieces of wood and plaster, which could be down to the fact that I've had it a few years and it was second hand. However my Dewalt DC515K does cope well with sucking up liquids although I have only used it on water personally. You can also take out the filter and wash it under a tap, but do not scrub it as I ruined one this way and had to buy another.

The on and off switch is situated beneath the handle so you can switch it on or off with your middle finger that you're holding it with leaving your other hand free. It is quite awkward trying to use both with it anyway and was clearly not designed for it, so it is a blessing it isn't heavy.

The only real problem I have with the Dewalt DC515K is the noise. It's extremely noisy, even with ear defenders on you can still hear the noise from it.

All in all it is a good portable vacuum for the DIY fans. The Dewalt DC515K is not the best but it's certainly not the worst.
