Advantages: small and neat , all the extras tuck into a compartment at the back.

Disadvantages: can be a nuisance to empty

For years I was committed to my Hoover vacuum cleaner. I brought it because at the time it was a very good cleaner and good at keeping dust in the bag. It was an upright and as I lived in a flat at the time I didn’t need to worry about going up the stairs. When we moved into the house in which we live now, I found that my “old faithful” could not be of use to me up the stairs without a lot of fuss and bother. Time to spend some of hubby’s hard earned cash on another one.

I was on the look out for a powerful cleaner that was good at collecting dust. I have an asthmatic husband and one of my sons has eczema, so obviously with allergy problems in my house I need a hover that is powerful, reliable and pretty clean. I also had the added problem of wanting it to go up the stairs with ease and not a lot of problems. I do not have a lot of storage space at home so I also wanted it to fit in my cupboard under the stairs quite comfortable.

I am not one that falls for advertising “hype”. It just happened that I wanted a vacuum cleaner in the middle of the Dyson “boom”. But I was not convinced at the adverts that claimed that Dyson’s were the best on the market. No not I, I needed proof first. After all it was a lot of money to spend on something that only worked for a bit, then would decide to pack up. And they were outside my budget range anyway.

Part of my job is looking after old people. I have to go and clean their houses sometimes. I had a new client. In her house she had an old cleaner that had broken down. Her son was buying her a new one. A couple of weeks after I had started at her house, her son brought a Dyson upright cleaner, I up until this point still had to make up my mind on what cleaner I wanted. After using the upright my mind was made up. I WANTED A DYSON!!!!

I have brought the DC02 model. It is small and neat, being grey and yellow in colour. It has
a clear “bin” that collects all the dust, and in which you can see the dust swirling around in, as it has no bag to collect the dust in just the clear “bin”.

I am rather in love with my Dyson! This is because it goes easily up the stairs. It has a shape that “hugs” the step and sits quite nicely in it. There is plenty of electrical cord, so I don’t have to run and keep unplugging it (this gets sucked back into the hover after use by pushing the peddle).

Because the pipe is long on it, it quite easily stretches to the top of the stairs (I have fourteen steps) with the simplest of effort. The hosepipe has an extending head on it, which is made of metal. This various in height so is good for short people like me and taller people like my hubby!

There are various attachments to place on the end of the hose. These include an attachment to clean the curtains, a small space piece (long and thin) and a little brush for things like the tops of the doors. The main one I use is the large head, which you can pop a brush out of. This can also be used on lino flooring without scratching it.

There are two dust filters in the Dyson. These stop the dust from going back into the air while you are hovering. I must mention that when they get “full up” there capacity to work is very limited. I think I remember reading that you should change your filters every three months or so.

Emptying the Dyson is a little bit tricky; especially as I have to make sure that I don’t let any dust back into the room. To empty (and indeed to change the filters) you lift up the top of the hover, by pushing a button. Then you can lift out the whole bin, as it has a handle on the front of it. What I do then is to remove the middle piece, (the yellow cyclone thing) and have a full bin. I then tip it into our outside dustbin. This is where the dust flies up at you and you end up lookin
g dusty! You can rinse the cyclone thing in water to get the dirt out of it. It has holes in that sometimes catch things in.

I am all for this particular hover. I think that it is neat and can be stored out of the way quite nicely. I have had it for quite a while now and I use it daily. It is brilliant at picking up the tiniest of crumbs, and you don’t need to spend ages using it and it keeps my kids amused!!!
