Advantages: Great suction

Disadvantages: Frightens young children

And why do I love him, I hear you ask. Well, this fantastic fellow knocked on my door 2 days ago, and handed me this great big parcel. Oooh! What was in the parcel, I hear you ask. Well, I won`t tease you any longer, inside the parcel was my lovely green and grey new Dyson.

It`s always the same isn`t it? You get a new toy, and you`ve just got to play with it. And boy did I play with it. I hoovered the living room, kitchen, hallway, stairs, landing, bathroom, our bedroom, and the dangerous part, the kids bedroom.

The reason hoovering the kids bedroom was dangerous, was because after 2 minutes my brand new Dyson started smoking. I almost cried, what could possibly have gone wrong with this wonderful machine in just a couple of hours. The problem, was the sheer power of the suction. My children`s bedroom is adorned with one of those huge rugs covered in roads and parks, and although it isn`t that old, my kids are just such vandals that it is frayed around every edge.

Now the dc04 has a roller brush, and as we all know, roller brushes just love picking up loose threads of carpet and winding them around and around till the brush won`t turn. When the brush stops turning, the belt starts smoking and eventually snaps. Luckily I caught it before it snapped and spent 10 minutes painstakingly pulling all the carpet threads from it.

So, now that the crisis is over, and my Dyson hasn`t blown up, I can tell you about it`s other features.

Apart from the incredible suction, the hose attached to the back reaches to the top of the stairs. Gone are the days of hoovering half the stairs, unplugging the hoover, carrying it all the way to the top, plugging it back in, then hoovering the other half.

The hose itself has an ingenious design. The metal pipe protrudes from the handle, and the pipe slots inside the incredibly stretchy hose, so no more long hose pipes winding all around your hoover.

There are three floor too
ls that come supplied with the dc04, 2 of them slot on the top of the Dyson and the thin crevice tool, slots on the back of the handle. When you need to use these, you just flip down the green lid at the top of the handle, and slot them on the pipe.

If that isn`t enough, there is a life long filter in the top that you just wash out every 6 months, leave to dry for 12 hrs, then fit back in. The bin itself that collects all your well accumulated bits of dirt is see through, so now you know exactly when it needs emptying. This unclips very easily, then you tip your dust into the dustbin, give it a quick rinse and dry, and push it back in.

The cable winds easily round the 2 cable winders attached to the back, so it all stays neat and tidy.

Now the bad parts.

Yes, there are a few niggly little things that I don`t like. Firsly, is the noise. For something that is supposed to be at the forefront of technology, I expected it to be really quiet. Well it is quite loud, and scares the living daylights out of my 15mth old daughter.

Secondly, is the base of the Dyson. This is quite bulky, so it doesn`t go to the edge of the carpets against the wall or where ever there is furniture. This means that you have to detach the handle and use the hose quite frequently.

Thirdly, is the way the 2 carpet tools just sit in the gaps at the top of the Dyson. They don`t actually clip into place, so they get knocked out very easily. This isn`t good, because anything that lands on the carpet in my house, doesn`t normally get seen again for at least a week.

Lastly, is the price. It`s just too damn expensive. I was going to get one second hand, but after weeks of searching, there were just none available in my area. So in the end I had to bite the bullet and get a new one. This wasn`t too bad for me because I had £70 shop&save on my catalogue, this meant I only paid £170 instead of £240.

Overall I am chuffed to bits, I
didn`t realise that my carpets were so dirty. Even though I`d already hoovered before my Dyson was delivered, I still had to empty the bin twice on the first day of use.

Now I can truly say my house is clean.

We've got a DC04 too & I agree with all you said in your op. I had the problem with the rollers too, although mine tried to eat half a ball of wool the kids had left lying around!!
