Advantages: Suction power, Bagless, 2 yr guarantee

Disadvantages: Occasional tool problems

We purchased a DC04 (the Yellow and Grey one) in Jan 2001 and have not regretted it one bit.

The Dyson DC04 is a well designed upright vacuum cleaner that does not require those horrible bags. The best feature of this machine is its powerful suction. This comes from a 1200 watt motor. The amount of dust and dirt picked up is amazing, thus you have to empty the machine more often than a conventional upright.

It has an automatic adjusting cleaning head for different floor surfaces. This means you can go from room to room without having to use switches. You can, although, switch off the rotating brush off to enable you to clean delicate rugs and hard floors.

There is an instant release for the extending hose which then can reach the top of staircases. This is therefore a high safety feature. There is a lifetime filter on this machine, which means that you do not have to buy anymore. The only thing that has to be done is that this filter has to be removed and washed every 6 months.

We find that sometimes the tools are hard to attach to the extension hose, although using them is easy. These tools include a narrow nozzle (for getting into nooks and crannies),a round brush (for suites and curtains), and a small flat-headed nozzle (which can be used for stairs).

The DC04 came with a 2 year guarantee.

£200 for a 1200 watt vacuam cleaner, the world has gone " Bananas ". We have a 1600 watt cleaner that cost less than fifty quid - fair play to Mr. Dyson - he is a very clever man selling such "trendy" goods at such an exhorbitant price. I would never buy his products simply because he is not a true equal opportunity employer.

This is a very efficient cleaner. We would not go back to a bagged upright, jessyclown!!

Is this an efficient cleaner? I would hope so at that price.
