Although we had no need to purchase a new vacuum cleaner, I was in a position to buy a Dyson on staff discount from the home shopping catalogue I work for, and having heard numerous friends rate Dysons so highly, we decided to go ahead. The first decision was which model? Having pets and carpetted floors throughout, the DC03 and DC04 seemed the best choices, and thanks to the excellent customers service department who I emailed for advice, we decided on the DC04 Absolute Model. On delivery, the first job was assembly. The pieces all slotted into place with reassuring clicks, exactly as in the manual, within 10 minutes, the unit was ready to go. Having heard people say you can use your old vacuum first and still see a difference, we decided to try it - over the whole house, the clear bin was 3/4 full, AFTER using our old vacuum! The unit was no noisier than our old Panasonic, although was somewhat heavier, however it is still easy to carry around, and up and down stairs etc. Speaking of stairs, the built in stretchy hose easily reached to the top of our stairs, and the suction was still excellent. I have heard reports of the tools coming off the hose, but personally we have yet to experience this. The clear bin is marvelous - you can see that you've done a good job, and I can't understand why people wouldn't like it - after all, your dust is better there than in your carpets! The guarantee is excellent (For 2 years, Dyson collect, repair, valet and return your vacuum in 3 working days) the machine is solid, works well, is easy to operate and looks stylish. The price (we paid £200, expect to pay £210 online or £230-£250 in shops) was expensive, but still great value for a machine of this calibre. Overall, we have nothing but praise for Dyson vacuum cleaners - they do everything that they say they will, and probably better than any of the competition. lent, the one bad review is from a guy who sells a rival brand in his shop (higher commision maybe?). Go out and get one!
