Advantages: Powerful machine, good for pet hair etc. Lighweight, easy for cleaning stairs.

Disadvantages: Plastic components cheap and break easily

I bought my Dyson DC05 about 6 years ago. Although it is basically a good product and vacuumed up cat hairs, litter, loads of talcum powder and other debris, I was disappointed that the clip to connect the turbo head to the extension tube snapped within 13 months. The turbo brush became the tool of choice because it was ducktaped to the extension tube. I know that these clips can be purchased, but fitting them is a nightmare. The other option was to buy a new extension tube.

Yesterday, whilst vacuuming, the plastic nozzle bit that goes into the extension tube sheared off. This has rendered the vac inoperable - I couldn't glue the bits together - I am going to try and tape the two components together for the time being so that I can research into buying a new machine.

The product is really very good technologically speaking, but sadly, the use of cheap plastic in manufacture let it down. I don't expect to pay over £250 for a vacuum cleaner only to have to replace it so soon - I would have expected a 10-15 year life span as minimum.

Needless to say, my new vacuum cleaner will NOT be a Dyson
