Advantages: Light
Disadvantages: Poor construction, poor cleaning and expensive for what it trys to be
Okay I had this machine for 3 years. I got on the Dyson bandwagen having been wooed by their stylish looks and promises of wonderful cleaning. Things started well as I got a great deal from one online company and saved a lot. The machine was well packed and labelled. It performed great for the first 6 months. I used it about 2-3 times a week on mixed carpet and tiled surfaces. I followed their guidelines to the letter about cleaning what needed cleaning and being careful in all regards. During this time Mr Dyson decided to move his empire to the far East thus letting down a loyal workforce and trashing another British concept - however that is not related.
Problem 1) The rewind function started to fail and after a few more times it needed to be manually helped into the storage compartment.
Problem 2) It was fiddly to and messy to remove the dirt collection unit.
Problem 3) Like another person has reported on the site the connector at the top of the flexible hose started to split.
Then slowly but surely everything else started to go wrong. The cleaning power diminished every time. Despite checking filters etc, etc it just wouldn't behave well. I never have over used the machine but it was starting to die. This being less than one year and having cost more than double the price of most of the competion.
I put up with its problems until this year when it started to cut out and switch off. Finally the cleaning ability became so bad I called it a day. Then it died for good and never switched back on.
To summise it was a great honeymoon which was shortlived. It is light but very fragile. It fails in just about every area possible. It costs a lot for what it is.
I have just bought a new Miele vacumn cleaner - yes they are costly too but the quality and features are simply superb. It uses a bag but the bag self seals - no mess. They are just top quality in comparison.
Just think before you buy and remember that Dyson was voted one of the most unreliable products by several independant testers. I know of 3 other people who report poor satisfaction with Dyson products and Dyson support.
Think and avoid tunnel vision before choosing is my message to you!
Summary: Buy if you want but why not check out the other makes first - Dyson are rubbish

- 31/08/06 It's funny, but all the really bad Dyson Cylinder cleaner reviews on all the review sites seem to be from people who replaced their 'appalling' Dyson with an 'amazing' Miele cleaner. Bit of a coincidence, don't you think? I can't help but wonder if the Miele company have something to do with these reviews as there are quite a few of them. |
