Advantages: Brilliant suction power
Disadvantages: does have a few manufacturing glitches
I have had my dyson for 9years and I still love it even though it has a few glitches!
When we bought this it was about £150.00 which I thought was a lot of money at the time but had heard they were great - I haven't been disappointed, I know people who have gone through 2 hoovers in that time.
Firstly it's compact and easy to store as the wand bit hooks into the main cyclinder. It also hugs the stairs although rather precariously I must say it does work! I love the attachments and I use them all regularly so I leave the attachment on the hose so that I can easily access them.
I must admit like one other user on this site that one of the plastic bits on the wand did split but as it has a 5year warantee included I phoned customer services and they were extremely helpful and got another one out to me straight away.
The suction however is absolutely fab and that's why I like this machine, I help clean a friends house and I take mine with me!! I've used many other hoovers and a lot of them with good suction actually stick to the floor and make it hard to push backwards and forwards, however the Dyson glides over floors and effortlessly cleans. I do noticer however that sometimes the suction goes slightly and whenever I notice that I clean the filter which is very easy and bingo it's back to it's full suction power - there is a big difference if it's left dirty. The instructions say clean twice a year.
I have also noticed that it's worth checking the wand from time to time, that it hasn't got anything stuck up it as I have realised this a few times. Also once when I went to clean the filter I thought I'll just have a look in the bit which goes from the hose into the cylinder and in the hole was a clothes peg - no wonder it wasn't working so well!! So sometimes it's not always the manufacturers job!
You can also buy replacement filters on their website if it gets really bad, they do a deal where you can buy both the lifetime and the washable one for about £19.00 which instead of a new hoover is a good price!
The retractable cord has gone a little over the years and I do have to kind of give it a small helping hand but that doesn't matter to me because the hoovering part is so good. I did notice that you can buy the retractable replacement part on their website so if it went in the first 5 years you could phone for another one. In fact they seemed to sell almost all the bits for the hoover except for the actual cylinder - you could almost make up your own hoover with the spare parts!!
I like the fact that this hoover is compact, it fits in my Ikea kitchen hoover cupboard great (although we had to adjust the shelving part a little!).
Dyson customer service is very good in my experience.
Summary: even with the glitches I love the hoover

- 19/06/09 It's funny how we think that Hoover - the brand name - covers all vacuum cleaners isn't it? (including Dysons) |
