Advantages: best all round cleaner

Disadvantages: price

Up until a couple of months ago I looked at two things when purchasing a vacuum cleaner; price and wattage. Price was the driving factor to be honest, the power came a poor second, and I looked at it, as a cleaner is a cleaner is a cleaner.
I had heard of dyson cleaners but the price was a huge obstacle to me ever getting one. My partner tried to explain how much better the dyson cleaners were compared to my cheap offerings. If the truth is to be known it was the chance to never have to change a vacuum cleaner bag again that really persuaded me that the new vacuum cleaner would be a dyson. Not forgetting that the cheaper ones I had purchased in the past had hoses that tended to fall apart all too quickly, they lost suction when the bag started to get half full and where awkward to use.
I guess that I was a victim of FES (false economy syndrome). But I have seen the light, I have been saved. Yep I have at last taken the plunge and purchased the Dyson DC05.
The first things that struck me about this machine is the design, quality materials used, construction and overall attention to detail. All of these are of the highest standard.

When I first used this machine, I was amazed at how its claims to not lose any suction soon proved to be correct. I was even more amazed that it removed cat hairs from my carpets with ease (in the past I have found myself combining a vacuum cleaner and a brush).

The extending handle has really been cleverly designed so it can be extended to various heights just by pulling gently at it, so much better than taking poles apart. All the tools are attached to the machine (saves me losing them).

The model I have has an airflow driven brushbar on one of its heads, this really does make the carpets come up clean. For those of you DC05 owners that do not have this attachment it is available for around £30 (Argos are stockists).

The DC05 is equally at home on hard floors, carpets and furnishings.

It is quite light, this will be very handy when I move to our new four floor house.

Emptying is so easy, just click a button the container comes off the main body, then it is emptied straight into the bin, no fuss no mess and no vacuum cleaner bags (oh did I hate changing them, they never seemed to fit back in place properly).

I have never really enjoyed anything houseworkie but I can now be seen to grab this machine whenever I see dirt on the floors.

The only problem that I have come across is that this power packed beast tried to eat one of my carpets. I got to the edge of a rather tatty carpet and it sucked the loose thread and started to strip the carpet like something out of a Laurel and Hardy film. This was yet another example of my suffering from FES as I should have not got such a cheap and tacky carpet in the first place.

The price is £220 to £320 approx, this depends on the model you choose, mine is the absolute plus turbo brush at about £260.
