Advantages: Works well for the first month or two
Disadvantages: Faulty connector for brush head
As a Dyson fan, when my trusty DC01 upright eventually gave up on me I bought the lovely new DC05 Absolute with turbo Brush. A nifty cylinder model costing £235. Within two months, and with only typical household usage, the connector at the end of the telescopic tube (the bit which connects the tube to brush head) cracked. Thinking I was just unlucky, I requested a replacement part and it was shipped the next day. 8 months after purchasing this vacuum I have had 3 replacement tubes and have asked Dyson and Currys (the retailer) to exchange it for a different model. Both have replied negatively and seem to think I am the only person in the world who has had this problem. Looking at the design of the machine, I think that there is a huge amount of stress placed on this little plastic coupling by the tube and hose, which store over the machine, linked to the base unit. Dyson, which I had previously thought to be good in terms of both products and after sales service, have changed since becoming a market leader in vacuum cleaners. Gruff, accusing customer service reps and a stock response of "no" to anything other than a replacement part. I would advise anyone considering this cylinder model to look at the uprights instead. This design is, in my opinion, faulty and although Dyson won't admit it, there are other people on the internet who have had this problem but simply cellotaped the connector back together. Therefore, Dyson don't have a true "user" fault report history on this machine. I would appreciate any feedback from other users of this model who have also had faults with this connector.

- 30/01/02 I have had my DC05 Absolute Turbo for just over a year and have had to have two replacement parts: the same one as you - the connector at the end of the tube and the upholstery brush, which snapped during use. It's a fantastic cleaner let down by weak plastic parts. Let's hope they read this and learn from their mistakes. Unless I see an improvement next time I buy then I won't be buying Dyson. |
