Advantages: an excellent powerful cleaner
Disadvantages: slightly expensive and heavy
I'm feeling very happy because at long last I have got a Dyson vacuum cleaner again. I used to have one that I loved but sadly about a year ago it bit the dust and went to the Dyson Graveyard in the Sky. As I needed a new one fairly quickly we bought a far inferior and I have to admit cheaper version from Tesco but I was never happy with it. So last week, after a rather fortunate mishap with that vacuum cleaner, I went straight on to the Amazon website and ordered my new Dyson.
There are many varieties of Dyson to choose from but I was happy to go with the basic original version - the DC07. As soon as it arrived I put it to work - well after two days with no vacuum cleaner and two small children I needed to! - and straight away I could tell that this was a far superior cleaner!
The thing that makes Dyson special is that it uses root cyclone technology. This means that it separates dirt and dust from the air by centrifugal force and collecting it in a bin. This means a Dyson doesn't rely on a bag or filter and doesn't lose suction. I have to admit that I did not actually work that out for myself but read it on the Dyson website.
OK - so on to my Dyson. It is in the familiar colours of grey and yellow and it looks very streamline. You may think that I am a bit of a sad case but I think it looks beautiful! When I first got it I just wanted to look at it and admire it! But of course I needed to use it so I really put it to the test! This was actually after I had assembled it! The main part comes as all one piece but I did have to attach the wand but the instructions (both written and pictorial) were very straightforward.
You can either use the Dyson by pushing it across larger floor areas or by using the hose and wand which actually forms the handle and slots in and out very easily. Using the brushbar at the bottom was very effective and I could not believe how much dirt it picked up so quickly compared to my last cleaner. You can see how much dirt you are collecting because it collects in the clear cylindrical bin. There was certainly a lot of dirt there in a very short amount of time. It is a fairly noisy cleaner but not too much so that it is unbearable. Once my two daughters had got used to the noise it made it did not bother them at all!
I also needed to use the wand and the hose. The actually hose is pretty long and stretchy so it will do all the way up the stairs easily. You can also make it stretch further in order to get to inaccessible places by reversing the wand. This was also a very effective way of collecting dirt and I was very pleased with how every bit of dirt or fluff in its path was collected. There are also three different attachments to use with the hose and wand and these all have special places on the main cleaner where they can be kept when you are not using them. In fact I do think the whole thing is put together so cleverly which makes it very succinct and tidy. The wand also makes it very effective on wooden or tiled floors.
It's very easy to know when to empty the dirt bin because you can see how full it is. It's easy to take the Dyson apart, shake all the contents out and then put it back together again. Every part can also be cleaned and there are instructions how to do all of this. My only slight criticism of the whole thing is that it is a bit on the heavy side. I can lift it with its carrying handle but if you have trouble lifting heavy objects you could well struggle.
This Dyson normally costs £199 from Amazon but I was very lucky to get it on offer at £139 which was a lot more affordable. I do think that the Dyson technology is worth paying that little extra for though because the cleaning results are really so good. Having gone back to Dyson, I really don't think I would be without one again - it's that good!
Summary: It's got to be Dyson!
