Advantages: Great suction - cleans as you expect a dyson too.

Disadvantages: The weight, the wand logistics and the release button position

Previously a DC01 owner with a 10 year gap inbetween purchases - the difference between these two cleaners is amazing.

The suction capability is great - you get the feeling your getting right into the fibres. It is also a little scary - if it latches onto something and the seal is absolute it draws the vacuum in - whilst vacuuming the stairs this happened and i nearly ended up wearing it - as it was on the landing.

For me there are more downers - some minor - some designwise.
The weight of the cleaner is noticeably different - I couldn't imagine my Mum lifting it up and down the stairs. The wire reel at the back doesn't have a quick release any more (but we can live with that). Unlike the previous model you could draw the wand out and start to use, this model requires that you draw the wand out, detach the end and reconnect it to the other end - this gets to be a bit of a "too-doo" and you end up not bothering doing the rotating bit. And finally.... when carrying upstairs your thumb naturally rests on the release button for disengaging and emptying the cleaner - just be careful not to make a mess.

Go in store - feel the weight and the ask for a demo on the hose and look how you would carry it upstairs - then go back on line and find your best deal.
