Advantages: powerful suction, removes pet hair, keeps house cleaner longer
Disadvantages: heavy, hose is a little stiff
I just had to write to tell everyone how great this vacuum is! My husband bought me this Dyson “Animal” as a birthday present. I know, most gals go for gems and jewels, but I’d been harassing him about getting the new Dyson for several years now.
I had purchased another popular (known for its lightweight) that I liked well enough, the problem is, with my four cats, I was finding the vacuum and the little portable canister vac that it came with wasn’t effectively picking up the cat hair from my floors or furniture. It seemed to work somewhat when I first got it, but after only one or two uses, it seemed clogged and lost its suction permanently. We even tried having it serviced, but the service center could find nothing wrong with it.
So, I was on an airplane reading the airplane magazine, and there’s an article about the Dyson, how it is engineered differently from any other vacuum, that it was invented specifically to not lose suction!
I vowed that once my vacuum died I was going to try the Dyson, in spite of the steeper price tag.
Anyway, my old vacuum is still alive and well and will be donated, since my generous husband has replaced it with this dirt-eradicating weapon of mass destruction.
Not only does it clean pet hair effortlessly (worth the price of the vacuum all on its own,) but this morning I noticed as I was walking through the two rooms I cleaned with it yesterday, that the rooms are cleaner than usual! I think my former vacuum must have just been redistributing the dirt instead of sucking it up! Now, where I would already be seeing my own and my cat’s hair on my bath/bedroom floors, I actually see clean floors! My bedside tables (which I didn’t vacuum of course) for some unknown reason have not become covered with dust within hours of cleaning them. I can’t explain it, but my house seems cleaner than ever before! My guess is that my other vacuums just made a lot of noise and blew the dirt around, but didn’t really clean very much. Well, I’m not breaking my back in order to just achieve dirt relocation, I want dirt removal and with this machine, that’s what I seem to be getting.
I also love the hose and attachments-they work great and are so convenient.
The only thing I think I would change (and this may improve over time,) is that the hose seems a bit stiff and can be tough to pull when I’m vacuuming my stairs. Perhaps it will get more flexible with use.
I was afraid this machine would be really heavy, and while I miss the lightness of my other vacuum, I don’t find the Dyson difficult to push or pull. It can be just a bit awkward to carry because of its weight-so if you are physically challenged; perhaps this upright isn’t for you. ( I don’t know what the Dyson canister vac weighs, but perhaps that would be a better option.)
Otherwise, I’m enjoying my fresh, clean house!
