Advantages: Great Suction! Looks the Biz!
Disadvantages: Hefty price tag! Heavy! Awkward size!
This Dyson was my first upright cleaner, I considered it would be easier to use, and involve less bending down. Having a combination of hardfloor tile, laminate, and carpeting. I needed a machine that could handle a variety of surfaces.
With its HEPA filter, bagless and easy dispose system for the dust chamber, and its super long reach hose for the stairs, or for getting those pesky cobwebs off the ceiling, this high spec machine appeared the best out there. I had very high expectations.
However, the first thing that struck me when I got this unit home, was the weight. Its a heavy lump, to shift around. OK its relatively nimble thanks to the clever design. However, try taking the thing upstairs a couple of times a week, its an accident waiting to happen.
The other thing that struck me, was the size of the cleaning head, its over 12 inches! An for once that isn't a good thing! You have to move half the furniture out if its way to get it around. An the dining room table needs to have all of its chairs moved away, or there is no chance.
One more gripe I have, is that the bagless dust chamber, is too small of a capacity. The pet hair all seems to gather in one corner, and next you thing you know, hey presto its full again!
Being positive for a minute the attachments are well fitted, and store neatly in place. The suction is second to none, and the extendable hose is one of the longest in the market.
But all of this fun an trickery comes at a price, and my unit cost me in excess of two hundred pounds! Now when you consider my 32"LCD cost only five hundred. Its not cheap, and neither are replacement filters, or the HEPA.
So all in all, I would not recommend this unit. Yes its a great vacuum, in terms of power. However, its build seems quite flimsy, the wheels look weak. An its awkward size mean its crazily heavy! The dust chamber is small, and after-service is expensive!
ONE more thing where to store it? Its a huge lump that needs it own dedicated room, practically!!
So unless you want something pretty looking and high tech to play with, and have arms like Arnie! This in my opinion is one to avoid.
Summary: A nice idea, but no thanks!

- 20/07/09 wow 12 inches - must be hard to reach all the nooks and crannies |

- 28/12/08 I sympathise with you greatly. Dyson machines are certainly bigger than most uprights on the market but to be fair traditionally if you want to clean hard floors, you'd use suction only of which the Dyson hose and additional tooling available could be used.
Most vacuums are expensive these days and the latest Dyson models come with a 5 year guarantee. In this market you get what you pay for, sadly. |
