Advantages: Easy to use, powerful, easy to clean, refuses to break down

Disadvantages: Attachments may break, fluff catches behind the brush

Purchased a DC07 from John Lewis about five years ago shortly after aquiring a long haired dog. The dyson is easy to push around on the carpets but is heavy for carrying up stairs when cleaning. It has powerful suction which can be hazardous when using the hose as I've sucked up many items by mistake but these are usually deposited within reach in the main chamber. I like the fact that I can see the dirt and fluff that I am hoovering up and it's also great that I can empty the dyson straight into the bin without a fiddly paper bag.

Problems - the brush attachment broke very quickly at the joint. Also it seems more effective at getting the fluff caught up in the brush. As the dyson has aged its builds up patches of fluff behind the rotating brush which leads to a loss of suction. This is easy enough to remove with your fingers but I still think this should not happen with a dyson. It also leads to a faint burning smell and deposits of fluff on the floor.

It's probably a better buy now then it was when we bought ours as it's been replaced by better models and is now available for £180 on some internet sites.

Overall I would recommend it but use some of the attachments with care!

IN response to the comment - the dyson "head" is quiet large so it won't fit under furniture which rests on the floor. It would have to be stading around 12 inches off the floor before the dyson could be run even part way underneath. If I'm cleaning under furniture I usually use the hose with a brush on it but the furniture still has to raised by three inches approx to get this underneath. I think most dysons also come with a tool with a large flat head on it which maybe useful for this.

Regarding the noise - I do find that it's rather noisy, not in a horrible way but you can definately hear it from downstairs when I am cleaning the bedrooms. I should point out that my border collie who is usually fairly sane barks at and attacks the dyson so it may affect some dogs.

Summary: Great machine if you don't need the latest model.

Welcome to Dooyoo. A good start here although some more info would be good here such as:

Filtration factors
Noise
C an it go under low furniture?

If there's fluff behind the beater bar then this suggests there's a clog somewhere. Luckily with many Dyson models its easy to remove blockages. Burning smells usually relate to the motor clogged with dust however.
