Advantages: Super suction, Fantastic for Animal hair, No bags!

Disadvantages: Upright is heavy, Using hose is difficult because of the powerful suction pulling against you.

Well, I had a good read up on these before I decided to get one, what with the cost and all, and having had a Dyson before.

Having moved into the "house that Jack built" almost two years ago, our previous Dyson (the older single cyclone version) became a bit of an industrial workhorse, sucking up plaster dust, bits of cement and the like. It was already two years old by the time we moved in and had been well used with the two long haired cats that we had. So, I bought a new vacuum cleaner, a cheaper one, but supposedly more powerful. What a load of cobblers. It was great for the first 6 months, but slowly it began losing suction and I got sick and tired of having to empty that fiddly, dust loaded bag. I was starting to become quite desperate as our 2 cats had since become 5 and even getting down on the floor with the vacuum cleaner, using the upholstery brush wasn't getting all the cat hair off the carpet. So I started looking at Dysons again, knowing that now they were more powerful with their 8 cyclones than the original 1.

This time I had a good look at all the different types available and the varying prices. I even trawled the shops to get a proper look. After deciding that the "Animal" version would be the most suitable I checked up on reviews and there seemed to be virtually no faulting this one. So then the only decision was whether to go for the cylinder or the upright. I have always had cylinder vacuums before and had never really fancied an upright because of the weight and the short hoses. But the Dyson is an exception, the hose is super long and the upright is really no heavier than the cylinder. So, decided on the upright as it looked as though it would be easier to keep together and less likely to be buried in the under-stairs cupboard.

So after a bit of searching online I managed to find it on Currys' website for £220, some £80 less than some other shops. Wasn't overly impressed

with Currys' delivery time (took some 7 days longer than they had promised). But, I now have the Dyson.

Well, first use was unbelievable, if a bit grim. Started in the cats' favourite place, the lounge. The carpet looked like new and the contents of the cylinder were disgusting, it was half filled with cat hair!

This is a beast of a machine, "Animal" seems a good name for it!

I can cope with the weight, and it is so easy to empty. The only complaint I have is that when you use the hose attachment, the suction is so strong that I am not strong enough to pull against it hard enough for it to stretch very far. I did attempt the "reaching the top of the starts" test with it, but just as I got to the top the thing pinged out of my hands and flew back down the stairs!!!

Overall though a great machine, I do believe that I have made a good purchase here.

So you've finally joined us "Animal" owners (the vacuum, not pets although they do still count as well).

I think they're great, and I have a DC02 as well, but wouldn't say no to a Henry!!!

I've wanted one of these for ages but due to the cost, it'll have to wait a bit longer!
