My Dad's Other Cleaner


My Dad is 87 years old now and has quite a big house just for him but he likes it as it means all the family can come down to stay over in the school holidays etc. A few years back he needed a new cleaner as the one he was using came out of the ark and finally died a death so he bought himself a Dyson as he wanted something that would last him out (his words). He originally bought the green coloured cleaner and found it really good at doing what it was supposed to do but it was too heavy for him to be able to lift it up the stairs so Dad being Dad he bought himself another one for upstairs.


The one he bought was the Dyson DC07 and it is very similar in looks to the other one but it is coloured yellow instead of green. The rest of the cleaner is the same grey colour that all Dyson's seem to be. It is still quite a heavy cleaner to lift about but now he has two of them this one stays up stairs all the time.


My Dad is now unable to do his own house work so my and my Other Half try to get over there once a week to do it for him. This cleaner is really easy to use, you can manoeuvre it about quite easily and you can get right up to the edges of the rooms. Dad has carpet throughout upstairs so we can use the cleaner on all the surfaces the same. It is quite easy to get the cleaner to go under the beds as far as we can reach as it still sucks when you lower the handle down. Sometimes I find it hard to get it to suck up dust from the corners of the room so I undo the hose from the back and use the end of that to reach into the corners and along the edges to give it a better go at it.


In the bathroom he has a small rug on the floor and I find this quite hard to clean using the cleaner as it tries to suck it up underneath so I usually open the window and give it a good shake out there instead and then just hoover the carpet with the cleaner.


The tools are all kept on the back of the cleaner and are in a handy place to be able to get to them and you won't have to worry about losing them as they sit on there nice and firmly in their places. I use a few of them upstairs. The little round brush is good for getting cob webs down from the ceiling and then there is a small head which looks like the end of a cylinder cleaner but smaller, this is good for getting dust off the curtains or for doing stubborn bits on the floor with the hose loose. There is also a long bit of pipe so you can extend the hose a the end and then you can attach another piece to this which is like a flattened pipe for reaching down the sides of the chests of drawers or between the wardrobes.


The cleaner is very easy to keep clean, it just needs a wipe over with a duster, and it is easy to empty too. The buttons to undo it all are quite prominent so even if you are not used to using the cleaner you can see how to get it apart and put it back again quite easily. You do not need to worry about having to have bags either as this cleaner is bag less so the dirt goes straight into the container and then you empty in into the bin. The container is quite big so you can do a lot of hoovering without having to empty it every five minutes and you do not notice any reduction in the suction even when the container is getting full up.


I don't think you can still buy these cleaners today as they now have the new ball design ones but if you find one second hand then it would be worth getting as they do last a long time and are excellent cleaners.
