Advantages: no running costs (not counting electricity!), performance, after sales
Disadvantages: price, storage, power ! ! (see review for explanation)
If you are looking for just another vacuum cleaner and your not too fussed about features, suction or looks then you should probably stop reading now! If, however, these things matter to you then you are potentially on to a winner.
What you get in the box and how useful it is: A crevice tool: not too bad, useful for (duh!) crevices, especially in your car. A brush tool: works well on cobwebs, not much else though. A stair tool: the tool you'll probably use most often, great on car seats aswell as curtains. The Animal Turbo tool: annoyingly fixed in position but very effective at removing hair. Hepa Filter: Difficult to guage its efficiency but reportedly removes all alergens and bacteria from the air that passes through it.
Though small and manouravble, it is one of the most powerful cleaners on the market. If you know about Dysons then you will already know the basics of the technology, for anyone thats interested here's a brief explanation:
The machines use a cyclonic action to spin the air at high speeds thereby expelling the dust from the air. Because of this there is nothing to clog hence the no loss of suction clog. There is however a sponge filter that you have to wash every 3 - 6 months or you will notice a drop in performance. Compared to the hassle of changing a bag every few weeks you will barely notice having to this. A fact Dyson are obviously aware of as they provide a sticker to remind you to do this!
The downside of this power is that if you have any loose rugs/carpets/lino you will not be able to move the machine very easily as it will literally stick itself to the floor! This would be a concern to me if i had any back probs or was older.
Another problem (and one I belive later models have addressed) is that of storage, the hose and wand do tend to take up a large amount of room and if I had realised this at the time I might have been swayed to a different model if not make.
Where dyson really shine is in the after sales department. I had cause to call when I had a blockage and was treated to one of the most impressive displays of customer service I can ever remember!
This is a nifty machine that does everything you want a vacuum to do and not too loudly at that. It has a few minor flaws but nothing that later models haven't put to rights, outshines it's competitors in nearly every field! If you've got £250ish, go get one!
Summary: A fantastic buy, though purse strings will need to be loosened!!
